They were just making that part up to seem a bit less.. stupid, I guess. AFAIK, there has never been a DVD or Bluray set that wasn't in the intended order. And because the right order is also used on streaming services, you really have to put in great effort to start watching it in a wrong order these days.

Well, as far as this particular case goes, they filmed Serenity and showed it to Fox, and Fox didn't like it because they felt it didn't have enough action (I think they might not have hard the war scene initially), and they thought Mal was too dark of a character. So they went back and quickly wrote The Train Job as a quickly done, makeshift pilot. I guess once it got canceled, they just decided to air it in the end anyway. Though that doesn't really explain the delay for Shindig/Safe, nor why the skipped over Trash, The Message, and Heart of Gold to air Objects in Space... Maybe they just enjoyed Jubal Early? I dunno

It staggers me the stupidity of a company for not airing a show in the order in which it was designed.

That sucks for you guys, the air order ruins a couple of minor twists you would have enjoyed esp in the real episode 1.

The Ballad of Serenity (the theme song) was actually written by Joss Whedon himself, though he's not performing it in the version used in the show

So hyped!!! My dvd's are in chronological order, tho...? Maybe the newer ones are in airdate order or something? But don't worry we don't blame you, we blame FOX as always, because fuck FOX. I hope you guys are including the unaired episodes and the movie! I'm excited to see Eric react to this great show!

I could be massively jumping the gun, and I hope he doesn't read this and get overly-hyped, but judging by the amount of Eric smiles, beard-strokings, and "I really like..." 's towards Calvin and the audience, I feel the show has already wrapped its inescapable tendrils around Eric, and hopefully won't let go. :)

Can't agree more. The film is such a good cherry on top while somehow being a great standalone that I'm actually almost glad the series was cut short...because it gave us that masterpiece of a film :)

I just started the show and it's weird for me considering I watched all of Castle and Suits. Especially with Zoey. I associate her to her older Jessica persona when she's supposedely muuch younger and with different temper.

Favorite moment was when the captain kicked the guy into the engine. I wasn't sure if I bought him as pirate captain until that moment. You need to be able to make the hard call.

Never watched Firefly. Now I have the perfect reason to start. I tried wathing episode 2 first just to match the crew impression. And now I think I ended up watching episode 3 by watching Bushwacked. Sooo could someone give me the intended order so I don't get confused?

Btw, those uniforms those Alliance soldiers were wearing ARE the soldier uniforms from Starship Troopers. They acquired them to save money/time, just painted some parts purple :)

YEEES! Finally! I'm beyond happy right now :) The dvds/blu-rays were released in chronological, not air date order, so you shouldn't have anymore problems. Not a big deal regardless at all though, I appreciate you guys even addressing it, and now you have a bit of an idea how Fox really screwed the space pooch during its air times lol. I'm just beyond psyched YOU slights are watching this finally! Besides, you guys are fans of "prequels" typically, so you can consider episode 1 just that lol. I Can't wait to see Eric hopefully fall head over heels for this show like most of us, and that they can find a way to react to Serenity afterwards! Thank you guys for this pleasant and long-awaited surprise! :D

One thing I especially like is how they use a rig for the cameras only on Alliance ships and facilities, and a hand-held camera for everything else
