Introducing the Dungeon Master Series!

I've always had a love for the classic dungeon master style illustration... and especially ones depicting those moments where the adventurer just landed a truly terrible roll of the dice.

With that said, I am pleased to announce a new Classic Fantasy Illustration series here on the Patreon for 2020: The Dungeon Master Series!  The goal of this series is to produce a Portfolio Print Set of images dedicated to those RPG moments when the dice have failed you. I'd eventually like to have a set of 9 images in total. So far, I have 3 images finished and ready for the portfolio print set:

Each image in the series will have a fairly basic band of adventurers who are suddenly confronted with a dire emergency.  I am going to try to keep the adventurers very straight-forward medieval fantasy: Wizards, Warriors, Dwarves, Rogues, and Elves. (And maybe a giant or 2.) I want to make sure the characters and scenes are fantastical, but also as accessible as they can be, even to people unfamiliar with dungeon master gaming. I 'd like these images to be both a fun tribute to the genre as well as an inspiration prompt for any Dungeon Master looking for a new event to work into their next adventure.

SERIES 2 CONCEPT ART:

Series 2 will start this month and the other series will follow, continuing well into 2020. I will be sharing high-res versions of the drawings, watercolors and final images of these and the older ones with members of the Classic Fantasy Illustration Tier as we move forward. (And hopefully a physical reward tier with these prints once we have a few established.)

Do you have any ideas???  I already have a lot of sketches for Series 3, but nothing set in stone yet. And I want your feedback! If you have an idea for a classic Dungeon Master moment that ought to be in the series, let me know in the comments!

I am really looking forward to getting back to some classic adventures with you guys!

I can think of 2 incredible ‘rolled a 1’ moments in games I’ve run from the past couple of years. The first was the failure of the dice on the part of a BBEG - on his first attack after an epic monologue he rolled a 1 to attack, 1 on the confirm, and a 1 to save. The main giant had a heart attack on the field while the players went nuts. The second was the time a cleric took a moment meant to expound on the glories of his deity to a peaceful crowd and through a glorious series of poor choices and VERY bad rolls converted them into a torch and pitchfork mob hellbent on tearing down the temple. I’m not sure if either are illustration worthy, but they might spark ideas.
