I don't really know why, because I haven't read or played anything in connection to this series, but the second Borch was hanging by that chain, I knew he was the gold dragon. I suspected he was one when they had that discussion about how rare/real gold dragons were, but that fall was just... obvious to me. Idk. That didn't detract in the slightest from me enjoying it though!
