Oda was like *slaps hood* This baby can fit so many genres in it. Why wouldn't we smoothly transition from a tense kind-of-heist thriller to Tim Burton Horror in less than 10 episodes. It's so great.

Well of course it does, those are spoofs of all the seriously classic creepy stuff that don't even get colorized because the black & white makes it even creepier! And this arc is one big goofy love letter to all that stuff, the animators even putting the work in to give manga missing nods. Not that some real scary stuff doesn't show up, if being swallowed up by a island sized ship in a foggy sea known for killing sailors isn't scary enough.

This whole arc gives a vibe of Scooby Doo meets A Nightmare Before Christmas, it’s great. I also how the zombies are all offended when Usopp uses a flame attack against them. They’re like, “Hey, that’s dangerous! You could really hurt someone with that! 😡” 🤣

You just gotta love the sweet irony of Nami, Usopp, and Chopper (affectionately called "the weakling trio" by the community) being separated from the rest of the crew, especially on an island like this. Great way for Oda to ensure maximum hijinks!
