This is my first trivia post, so tell me if you want me to change how I arrange or store the details. This will go over fun facts about the editing of the video, as well as insights. These will be organized according to sections that you can find in the video's playback bar on YouTube, or in the description. Attached to this post is the full HD thumbnail if you want.
Intro: I originally wanted David Hayter to voice the beginning but I am very shy and it would cost 70 dollars and a lot of time. As well, I always make my intros as the very last part of the video, because they rely on me having a lot of footage to pull from. There was a SURPRISING amount of issues related to the PS3 Emulator (RPCS3) that I glossed over. Obviously there was the black boxes glitch, but there were occasionally frames where it would tell me that it was compiling shaders - I had to zoom some scenes in by 107% to hide this, but it's nearly unnoticeable. It took me several takes to get the final whispering line to sound correct.
Virtuous Mission: Originally there was going to be more character-speaking briefings like in the Ace Combat videos. Specifically, major Zero was going to be more of a character. But, I didn't want to overwhelm the viewer with character speech - I wanted to ease them into it, so I hold off on it until the Ocelot scene. In fact, many scenes were rewritten and shortened because I didn't want to have character speech go on for too long; for general audiences, my narration is preferable.
Snake Eater: I needed at least one joke to explain the black boxes around characters, or else I thought people would get mad at me- that's why I had the boss do it suddenly. Most of my voice effects that I use in the video, specifically at 5:01, is from an Adobe effect called "GuitarSuite" that is clearly not entirely meant to edit voices. Once I met EVA, I decided not to do a voice for her, since all of her scenes can be summarized easily. Originally, she was planned to have a voice, but that got scrapped early on when I realized how much it would lengthen every scene to have her speak. I had a fucking BLAST voicing Ocelot, but most of his jokes were written with the help of my Discord server. In the scene where Ocelot summons GRU soldiers, the soldiers actually take around 4x as long to get to snake, and do a lot of animations, but I edited it down and painstakingly changed the audio to make it look nearly instant.
The Pain: The Pain was originally voiced by me but Manasseh had helped me so much with the project that I had to get him into it somehow. And he was the perfect voice for The Pain. I also personally drew the paint image that replaces him in Microsoft Paint. The scene which follows The Pain's death, the one with The Boss, Ocelot, Volgin, etc, was the hardest to edit together coherently in my opinion. So much happens in a very short time. I skipped through Granin's scene as fast as I could since it was just kind of boring in the original cut.
The Fear: The fear was never supposed to have any personality. I am also pretty sure that the emulator glitched The Fear's camo a lot, which I had to disguise by being very selective with clips. Also- fun fact that will ruin the rest of the video, but it seems like because of my fight with The Fear, an arrow was permanently lodged into Snake's model that does not go away for the rest of the playthrough.
The End: I consider The End to be the most poorly written and poorly voiced enemy. I could not, for the life of me, think of anything funny for Bernie Sanders to say. He is, however, the best boss- and the section is much more about the fight than the Boss' personality.
The Fury: At this point, I ran out of good songs from the MGS3 OST and began using Command and Conquer Red Alert 3. It was a good decision. 12:27 has what I would consider to be my favorite joke - the one explaining why EVA isn't voiced, because "I don't know a woman". In the scene where Palpatine is hitting barrels, I originally wanted to show Granin's death, but couldn't, because the shot where he dies had too many black boxes from the emulator, so I instead played it off as a joke. It required a lot of audio editing to get it to sound continuous, when in fact every shot is very disconnected. Regarding The Fury, he has no character buildup, so I am satisfied with the "personality" that I chose for his intro. Most bosses in this game only have a few lines.
Groznyj Grad: I rewrote the "Volgin entering the chamber" scene like 5 times depending on which penile defect either Snake or Raiden was supposed to have until I chose one at random. The scene where Volgin beats up snake took a long time to make because of the shot where Ocelot appears, as I needed to do weird masking for that to work. You might notice in places, such as 15:42, that I tend to edit the video like a YouTube poop. This is because I was screwing around with the footage for fun, then decided to keep it in. The same is true for the "Ocelot clapping" scene.
The Sorrow: The Sorrow was originally going to be a joke about Randy Stairs and Ember's Ghost Squad but... I felt that a joke about him would be in very bad taste. Look him up if you don't know, it's a wild story. The Sorrow scene was designed to use the NieR automata OST, but I soon realized that Square Enix copyrights all of that at every opportunity, so I had to quickly substitute.
True Communism: I had intended to do the "True Communism" motivation for Volgin since the very beginning of the video. Every "Communist" enemy in the game is a fake American caricature of a Communist by design. It is meant to highlight Snake's naivety, which is highlighted in his constant urge to classify everything that he sees as being either "Based" or "Cringe". I also thought of the insult "Unfresh Bonobo" when I was in the shower. To do the final "Communism" speech by Volgin, I had hurt my throat doing his voice. It had hurt for 3 days afterwards. Some takes aren't perfect but I couldn't redo them because my throat hurt so much.
Palpatine: For the Volgin fight, I had to turn off the music because the in-game music is way too loud. Also, the general "Volgin bossfights" arc is actually the weakest in my opinion, since it drags on, so that is reflected in my video by me being very brief. Volgin's death scene is audio-edited to sound coherent but is mostly disparate clips. It actually features what are, in my opinion, extremely smooth edits that jump between different parts of his death scene to abridge it.
The Boss: I never knew what the Boss' motivation would be, it developed in my head within minutes of me editing Snake's scenes with EVA. I only later realized this was a perfect move, since it turns out the Boss is right, which is the impetus for the final scene. I find it kind of amazing that this all somehow turned out mostly coherent from middle to end. Also, the RPCS3 emulator pretty much can't handle the flowers scene.
Escape & Conclusion: Ocelot's entire personality was written to make the "Can a snake and an ocelot find love" joke work. Every joke he has ever said has been leading up to and setting up that scene. The entire scene where Ocelot fights Snake is extremely tightly edited, I had to do a lot of changes and screw with the audio a lot. Some actions that were in slow motion were sped up to look like normal speed. Also, I had to legitimately do a fake cry in order to get the recordings for when Snake was supposed to be distraught. I did this by looking up the ending of NieR Automata, which got me in enough of a mood to fake cry correctly.
I don't have much to say about the ending, only that I love it. I love the music, and I love the credits. I think they fit perfectly, and it wraps everything into a neat bow. The final detail that I want to share with you that might be missed is that it implies growth. Snake, throughout the video, has been a very simple character who couldn't really even understand the implications of the mission he was on. The ending is meant to show that he grows out of his phase of having his innocence taken advantage of. That's why I imply that "Based" and "Cringe" are in the past.
