Project Wingman Review: Trivia
Added 2021-08-24 09:24:12 +0000 UTCHey all, if you know how the Trivia works, you know. But for those who are new, It's essentially a gigantic post going through the video section-by-section covering large-scale insights into how I made the video.
~~ Intro ~~
-This time, I wrote the intro first and decided to mostly stick to it. Though, it was longer than I would like. I specifically downloaded several meme mp4s for filler space in order to make it faster. I think this is often a key part of the strategy, since it is an accurate advertisement for what the rest of the video is.
-Obviously, the intro is the most important part of the video. I really wish that I could do it with my new editing style I acquired as I did this video, I'll talk about that later.
-While I wrote this, I filmed it. The film was somehow oddly corrupted or failed, because it never recorded audio.
-I set a certain amount of requirements for this intro, which served to make it a little longer: I had to talk about varying enemy types, the context of being a mercenary, and the several different environments.
-Originally, I was afraid that the intro would make too little sense. It's fine, though.
~~ Gameplay ~~
-I change this later, but the way I used to put several images on screen was to show them one at a time overlapping. This makes it too fast and harsh on the eyes, and I don't like it as much as I used to.
-The VR footage that I have in the Presidia Siege and another level are unstabilized. For the majority of my footage, it is stabilized. This causes lag sometimes, but that manifests as the image warping (VR will warp stuff instead of just showing a slower framerate sometimes, it's to help prevent sickness).
-There's a color-based transition effect that I use which you may notice as being new for me. It is called gradient wipe. I added this retroactively near the end of my video when I figured out how it worked.
-Originally I wasn't going to show the final boss early. But I decided it was too absurd and I need to frontload slightly for videos to maintain a lot of watchability. The issue is usually getting people to watch the first few minutes.
-When I "get out of my airplane" in VR, I originally planned to get a shot of me standing besides the airplane, but I just didn't want to hook up my entire headset.
-I did actually beat the game in 2 sessions: The non-orange one, and the orange one.
-The VTOL VR footage was what convinced me to make this video. I thought it would be funny and I wanted to make it.
-The "bazinga" joke where Sheldon makes his friend crash a car was me remaking a meme I had seen once from memory with the highest definition footage I could find.
-There are exceptions to the "missiles" rule that I explain where every specialized weapon is missiles. This is because a lot of them are endgame and will not be seen in a first playthrough.
-It was at this point (around 5 min) I decided I wanted a few more shots that are longer/more lengthened to help people's eyes. In the future, this may not be an issue.
-I use the song "Phillistine" from No More Heroes 2 because I literally couldn't think of anything else. When I work long hours for a video, sometimes I am uncreative.
-I always intended from the very beginning of editing this video to include a reference to captain Torres. It's just a joke that never left my brain.
~~ Lore ~~
-I had no idea how to transition to this section so I just used the "speaking" section of the gameplay part of the video for a quick one.
-I had to rewrite the lore a few times to foreshadow things that are in the future of the review.
-The lore section always takes me the longest. The gameplay footage isn't enough to demonstrate what I need, so what I make is a lot of "original" graphics comprised of memes and supplemental material. It is hard.
-All of my footage of MGSV in this review is from my MGSV Incorrect Summary.
-I think I gave too much attention to the Peacekeepers/Crimson in this video.
-Prez was planned to be at the end of the Lore section. I recorded and wrote the entire section. However, I couldn't find an easy way to transition to it, and all of the footage would be very difficult. I was at my limit, and Prez is effectively less than 7 minutes of optional dialogue. I knew people would want it, but it wouldn't be a good video. If you don't know who Prez is, she is in the plane with you whenever you are in a two-seater and unlocks extra dialogue.
-You may notice I am very loose with spoilers. I mention casually he nuked Cascadia twice, which is a massive spoiler. This made me go back and add the spoiler warning, but to fully review a game, I have to be completely willing to tell people this. I'm reviewing it, not advising a consumer, and I will always make a complete review.
~~ More Gameplay ~~
-I consider Crimson Squadron's fight/gameplay to be the most obvious and big flaw with the game, and it isn't even really that bad. The game is just very solid in terms of its gameplay - it doesn't crazily innovative, it's just very consistent.
~~ Story ~~
-I saw the stats on my Control video and confirmed to myself that I should force every video to be approximately 16 minutes, it's more optimal for watch time statistics. This is why I added the story section. Also, I wanted the ending to be the Crimson fight. I think about what I am about to before I write the middle, a lot of the video is the question of how you reach it.
-I'm gonna be totally honest- the neighbor that I show my graph to is just my brother. I just really liked the idea of the joke and to the average person, it wouldn't be a problem. I lie constantly to make the video more funny. I am willing to do whatever to make it better.
-I originally wrote the music comments earlier and they were meant to be somewhere else, but I realized it was so short I could just connect it to my section on Mission 11 in the story section.
-Around 12:58 (The nuking of Prospero/Seattle) I begin to change my editing style. Basically, I had an existential attack where I realized a lot of the ways I edited basic things could cause eye issues and annoyance that take away from the audience. Primarily, they were the way that I flashed images on screen, and transitioned to things by just cutting them quickly. This would hurt a bit. Instead, I began using fades, transitions, and moving several images onto screen instead of overlapping them over and over. It took me a day to do this.
-I figured out 2/3 of the way into the video that it wasn't in 60fps. Whoops. I fixed that, though, that's why it looks smooth.
~~ Zero ~~
-I made this part in 2 sessions. Each day I did it for over 8 hours at like 2AM.
-I used Bosh's clips in this part because I did not want to buy Ratatouille. Like, seriously.
-The editing here is what you can expect the next video to look like.
-I planned pretty much all the major points of this from the beginning. I was very excited to actually edit it at full blast.
-"How do you like being nuked you sonovabitch" was recorded hastily at 2AM because I forgot originally and I tried to do it so I wouldn't wake up my brother.

2021-08-25 04:58:44 +0000 UTCI loved your video, and it immediately convinced me I needed to both own and play Project Wingman. I just wish you'd slow down your videos pacing a bit, like your original AC7 and Zero videos. Love your sense of humor, but can't appreciate it as much when it passes by at sublight-speed
