this is my wolves of the west ship. i think it came through more on johnny's part in the book itself, and the Dogs are definitely one big polycule, but johnny and mateo definitely have something deeper than that. johnny's the only one of them who knows and accepts that he's gay, and he's been quietly in love with mateo for a long time.
