Which Borough Is Your Favorite?
Added 2025-02-08 19:44:15 +0000 UTCBorough Bound has been active for a few years now, and we've released a lot of settings. It's been a while since we've done a vibe check, so we're doing that now! Out of everything we've released thus far, what has been your absolute favorite? We're limiting this to just ONE vote, so think long and hard! Then, drop a comment explaining your choice.

Two more things!
1. Have you checked out the Borough Bound Blog? We're now regularly posting articles with GMing tips, our design philosophy, and more. This blog will also double as our newsletter, so give it a follow if you want more BB in your life.
2. We dropped Electric Horizons—our crunchy, fuzzy, funky RPG album—on streaming services yesterday. It's filled with some of our grooviest and most idiosyncratic bangers, so give it a listen!

"Southern Gothic Devil" / "Western-Infernal" is SUCH a choice vibe though so all that says about you is that you've got fabulous taste ♡

2025-02-13 00:39:53 +0000 UTCI could never pick one but I can tell you that Crabwell has been my player group's favorite.

2025-02-10 21:35:19 +0000 UTCI know we already did a “Definitive Edition” for the LIMINARC, but boy… I would definitely scheme more airships. It’s just so fun.

2025-02-10 00:19:14 +0000 UTCI wrote a song for a hypothetical "Demon with a folksy southern drawl" and then found Brinspur and was miffed I wasn't original LOL

2025-02-09 23:08:18 +0000 UTCYllmourne is my favorite full borough, but I voted for Liminarc because the mileage of ships and airships is nearly infinite

2025-02-09 23:07:20 +0000 UTCOh wow, that's so perfect! Great art, and I can't believe how well it fits the Brimspur theming.

2025-02-09 21:17:38 +0000 UTCTHATS HARDLY A BAD HABIT!! I ADORE Brimspur, for real. Admittedly I'm real bad about collecting more material than anyone could ever use in their entire lifetime, so the more mainstream boroughs are still collecting dust on my shelf--but it's that zany stuff that sometimes hits JUST right. This is my Son, Ezekiel; you made Brimspur for me specifically I swear - https://i.gyazo.com/thumb/1000/5369c1cc3c9b6ab8915cce1114461367-png.jpg Needless to say I will be first in line to gobble up any future infernal western content!!

2025-02-09 19:56:07 +0000 UTCThat’d be awesome and very much appreciated if you did one day find the time! Not that a guy couldn’t do it himself, but your suggestions were always very on point. If it’s a niche item though I completely get the work that would have to go into it.. hope ya do, understand if ya don’t. I think the manuals you were using would still be a great fit if you kept going, those are the ones everyone’s used too and most people would already have this far in.. I too am having a hard time getting on board with the new stuff. Regardless, thank you guys for being awesome and chatting, one of my favorite creators by far! Cheers

2025-02-09 18:33:43 +0000 UTCBit of a complicated answer: I paused tackling the 5e stat block recommendations around the time of the OGL crisis (for obvious reasons). We also did a survey around then that revealed a surprising number of our patrons weren't playing D&D at all. Then, of course, the updated 2024/25 core rule books changed a bunch of compatibility. In an ideal world, I'd still keep everything updated all of the time, but it takes a surprisingly long time to go through every NPC or creature referenced in our guides, browse all of the various stat block sources, and come up with 2 - 5 suggestions with different CRs for each. We never really got much feedback that folks were using it in the first place, and now the whole nature of "what's a useful 5e stat block" has changed. I think it's unlikely I'll return and update the whole spreadsheet to account for every borough we've skipped, but if I find a few free days, maybe I'll go back and do it. Though, I will be ignoring the updated MM as I'm not PERSONALLY interested in fully engrossing myself in the new stat blocks.

2025-02-09 09:22:35 +0000 UTCThat’s such a cool bit of info! Thanks for sharing that. Ive been meaning to reach out in regards to NPCs and stat blocks actually. Did you guys stop doing the google sheet recommendations for what stat blocks to use in the boroughs? Or was there just some that didn’t get any?

2025-02-09 01:06:04 +0000 UTCGood call looping Elseridge into a Spelljammer campaign! I had a lot of fun with the whole “edge of the world” lore, and I love little homebrew lore that ties Elseridge even closer to the cosmos.
Borough Bound
2025-02-09 00:53:09 +0000 UTCA bunch of the NPCs from Yllmourne came directly from our cartographer James’s home game, so I think it’s only natural that they have a ton of personality!
Borough Bound
2025-02-09 00:52:04 +0000 UTCI have this bad habit of adding zany stuff to the greater BB lore that I get obsessed with, and then it always pains me so much to have to leave it behind as we explore other settings. The whole weird Wild West vibe of Brimspur is DEFINITELY something I want to return to.
Borough Bound
2025-02-09 00:51:09 +0000 UTCHow can you choose just one?!?! I am currently having a fun with Wresyk Junction at my virtual table but I have a deep love for Elseridge and plan to incorporate it into my Spelljammer games. And both Thestwick and Yllmourne have provided wonderful maps which got a lot of use in my homebrewed Barovia game.

2025-02-08 23:46:41 +0000 UTCOnly picking one is so hard, I’m going to go with the one the players liked the most. They’ve been so interactive with the pirates of Yllmourne

2025-02-08 23:23:37 +0000 UTCthe lack of love for Brimspur is devastating!!! Even before it came along, I had a reoccurring NPC in my game that was literally the Southern Gothic Devil, and when Brimspur popped up in front of me I about lost my mind with hype. ABSOLUTELY would love more content in that vicinity!!

2025-02-08 22:53:44 +0000 UTCI usually say Gruuk Jit’Jit is my favorite, though I’m also partial to Ithivellia and Sootwyn Barrow.
Borough Bound
2025-02-08 21:24:02 +0000 UTCI have to say your best ones tend to be the ones with a strong story concept, like Grukjitjit

2025-02-08 21:02:20 +0000 UTCI would love to see the rest of Svarnahelm too!

2025-02-08 20:53:49 +0000 UTCI am also stoked to keep diving in! We'll be doing a poll to see which district everyone wants next soon.

2025-02-08 20:53:08 +0000 UTCI love all of the ones I’ve read so far, but I’d be most excited to see to rest of Svarnahelm fleshed out
