Rangiku's bath

Looks like mission failed successfully. xD Since the focus of this piece is on the skin shading, I’ll start there. ^^ What I think you did extremely great here with the skin is also the difference to a lot of your previous works. In your past works, you portray the color of the skin at strong levels of brightness relative to a strong light source, or an effective level of brightness mixed in a darker atmosphere. For the case of this picture, I feel like it’s neither of those cases. But rather it’s a different approach to coloring skin in this specific setting that makes it stand out. It’s both going for a portrayal of skin reflecting the ambient lighting you would find in a bathroom, mixed with the dampness from the hot moisture that alters the reflection of light on the skin. And it’s done INCREDIBLY effective here. I’m going to guess you combined layers of her skin at a base color, then the appropriate lighting which I can assume is soft lighting to convey a feel like this is taking place in a bathroom without a window, added the shading, and then applied a texture with a waterbrush for the damp skin. Then maybe applied a percentage of saturation for the overall picture. Whether I am wrong or not, you did a fantastic job on the skin color and it’s your best skin shading for this specific scenario. The tan complexion given off by the lighting and moisture on the skin pop out so nicely. All the details like the dark shading to convey internal body parts through her skin and the bits of white light from her damp skin are beautiful! And of course, your signature red glow/hue and harsh shading being used for her breasts is immaculate. Looking at this, I couldn’t help but go back to your previous Rangiku drawing. I wanted to compare the drawing of her then to the drawing of her now. And it’s not just your old Rangiku piece, but you’ve evolved from this more round and somewhat harsher style of coloring and drawing. To a style that has more sharp and clean polish. Not saying your old works weren’t polished, they were. But your style has changed drastically and to great results I might add. Another aspect of note is how you drew and colored her hair here in comparison to the previous Rangiku drawing. Where that previous one, it came off as luscious with very harsh lighting and very loose in detail of the strands. Here, it seems you’re following the more traditional manga style of a clear outline and softer composition. Resulting in a different type of luscious hairstyle in comparison to the previous Rangiku drawing. Neither is better over the other I would say, but much like her skin, I found the way you colored her hair makes the details of it stand out! The final thing I want to bring attention is: are those wet towels? … And her digging her fingers into her breast is just, mmm. You love to show off how soft they are, huh? Haha. Anyway, fantastic drawing! It fascinates me to see you going back to an old character and drawing them in your present style to different, yet equally spectacular results!

Her hair use to be more orange but I based this illustration on the most recent character design sheet they made for the new season and for some reason now it is more yellow than orange. We'll have to see how it looks in the end. But its a very good observation, Lucas.
