This overwhelming sadness hits me when Dave is about to be suicided in 1-8. This good, smart kid, who fell under the spell of a demon, and then when he fights it off, he gets suicided, and knows it’s about to happen. Hits me as hard as Flutie.

I think it's arguable, if you're not sure about the show yet, to maybe give this one a miss. If you're devoted to the show, though, yeah, catch them all. :D

I dunno, I think they're all worth watching the first time through. They all at least have some amusing moments and often a little character development. There's not *that* many episodes to get through in Season 1 that they need to be skipped imo. Rewatches, sure, but it's worth seeing the show in its entirety first time around.

I've always thought that it was a pretty good accomplishment for this episode to make me care about a ventriloquist's dummy... but I never thought I would tear up over it. lol. I think I'm just overly emotional right now. I blame the coronavirus. lol. (I'm only being half serious here.)

Right?? I feel like the long-time fans (justifiably) put so much emphasis on all the later seasons, we forget about the likes of Sid and Flutie and Herbert.

I’ve also grown very fond of rewatching season 1 episodes over the years. The reasons all seem spoilery…..but it’s nice to see where it all started and simplicity is a good word for it

As infamously "meh" season 1 is supposed to be and what we tell all new viewers to "get through" seeing it now for the 4th time along with Alley has given me a new appreciation for what is charming and fun about the simplicity of that first season that I didn't even appreciate during the original run 23 years ago.

You're almost through the meh-ness of Season 1. You just gotta grind a few more Buffy levels to get the good stuff. Hang in there! Anyway, my fun fact for this episode is that the Executives at Fox/CW hated the mid-credits scene and it only ever aired on TV when the episode premiered. They sent Joss Whedon a note that said, "We realize that it's Shakespeare, but does he have to talk about sleeping with his mother?" The performance is from Oedipus Rex by Sophocles and written 2,000 years before Shakespeare was born.
