2020-05-13 12:08:23 +0000 UTCThat's why a lot of folks equivocate over the first season. The *elements* of a good show are tucked away, sometimes so subtly you don't even notice them. The individual episodes are great TV, but they are as episodic as TV gets. Notice how Angel got his own episode and big reveal, and now he's largely absent from the show? It's something that would *never* happen later on. Prophetic dreams? Be nice if she had them in more than one episode, or if they were germaine to the plot. The way they're used in this ep kind of requires you to have a working knowledge of that plotpoint - but we don't, really, do we? So you've got this glorious moment where Buffy and the Master meet for the first time, but it's only because her prophetic dreams have already shown her what he looks like, and now that those dreams are manifest, he appears to her in the real world. It's *very* complex and it almost doesn't work because we don't get enough of that superpower explained to us via prior episodes.

2020-05-13 00:59:08 +0000 UTCWithout going into spoiler territory I'll say this, one of the powers that comes with the Slayer package is really confusing prophetic dreams that usually only make sense way after the fact, keep that in mind when watching the series, dream secuences are usually layered with meaning and metaphors
