Buffy the Vampire Slayer || 2x02 || Full Reaction

Comments

I'm getting a 404 error

Tabatha Cat

Here's a brutally terrible example of age casting. When Laurence Olivier played Hamlet, Gertrude (Hamlet's mother) was played by an actress who was younger than Olivier.

UTU49

If you don't like this episode, that can't possibly bother me, because it's one of my least favourite eps.

UTU49

I'll risk it.

UTU49

I could, but then I'd have to kill you. And possibly recycle your body.

Rachel Espiritu

Rachel, can you report back on what you thought?

UTU49

I think everyone saying how an episode isn't good or isn't their favourite is putting a sour note on something where it doesn't need it. Or its like trying to lead her opinion. I understand that people are saying these things because they want to ensure that she carries on and doesn't get put off by something, so the promise of "better" things to come will keep her going but I don't think it's necessary and takes away from an otherwise good episode.

Nikolai5

Stitched up corpse brought to life. Corpse monster then spends the episode begging for a girlfriend. This is pretty much the plot of the Frankenstein novel.

Steve Quast

Huh, it never occurred to me that the Hellmouth was just wide open after season one. It makes sense though. Season one is rather tame compared to later seasons. Hmm...

Sean

Yeah, this episode is definitely not the best of season 2. But I think it makes up for it with seeing the fantastic Giles/Jenny date. I would say Season 2 still mixes in those one off episodes that aren't always amazing. I'm looking forward to more reactions.

Angela Colon

I think the descriptor you were looking for in relation to The Master's bones was "pulverized." Also, once the spell that locked The Master below-ground was neutralized, the Hellmouth was officially "open for business." So now you get the BtVS take on "The Bride of Frankenstein," as well as seeing more of what will make Xander essential to the team.

Bryce Carlson

Cordelia is the baddest bitch @ Sunnydale High. She aint' even got superpowers like Buffy and she goes back to cheerleading after what is like her third kidnapping and attempt to kill her lmao.

Valkyrie

That is honestly one of my favourite lines!

Pockets

Sounds like Gracie was feeling left out. She wanted to watch Buffy too. Cordelia is very emotionally resilient. This is the third time she was kidnapped I believe (invisible girl Marcie, the anointed's gang, and now Frankenstein) and what does she do? She goes back to cheer leading because she's the apex.

zerofk

Even though this one isn't a favorite of mine I enjoyed your reaction cant wait for more.

Pho3nixX

Yo I just SQUEALED at that fucking cutaway gag in the beginning, I LOVE this reaction series!

Anastasia Bartocha

Totally agree. I don't think she gets nearly enough credit for her acting chops (excepting from those of us in the Buffy fandom of course). Every single time that she was given a scene with more depth on Buffy, she managed to tug on my heartstrings, and her screams are epic. Lolol.

Bixgirl1

Don't hype future episodes please.

Dave Ford

This is one of those episodes that almost felt like it belongs in season 1. You're gonna see a few of those but for the most part its only gonna get better from here. Without spoiling anything I just gotta say I cannot wait for your reaction to next episode.

Rockworm

"She's a techno-pagan, right? Ask her to bless your laptop." Was Buffy making a double-entendre quip?

Mark Zima

I feel you, after almost 3 months of quarantine my body is used to going to bed at 7 am and sleep until noon and then take a 2 hour nap at 8 pm, it's crazy 😂 I have to go back to work next week and I'm not sure how I'll manage 😷

Antonella Ricco

Look, I know this is gonna sound mucho creepy but like...Charisma has such great horror screams?? Her screams when she sees Daryl for the first time followed by the one where she sees the reformed corpse of the three female victims always give me chills. Definitely Charisma's best "horror" type work so far

TheLoungingPotato

I like this one - it's pretty funny at least - but the actor playing Daryl definitely looked too old, even compared to the rest of the cast.

Thomas Hansen

Yeah, Darryl was played by Ingo Neuhaus, who was 28 at the time, playing a 19 year old. Not sure what went on in that casting session.

The Movie Guru

Cordelia being so mission oriented as a cheerleader....I need to be that dedicated to something! I like watching ALL the episodes because there’s usually something worthwhile even in the ok episodes like this.

Shashank

oh my godddd WHO casted these people 😂 thats too funny but charisma is very youthful, and robia has that “cool science teacher” vibe to her so i understand kinda lol

Alley Box

Oh, I guess it's worth mentioning. Robia Scott (Jenny) is only two weeks older than Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia), they were both 27 at the time of filming, and they're both only one year younger than David Boreanaz. So yeah, age casting is.... weird.

Rachel Espiritu

Quick, make yourself some avacado toast, its your only chance.

David Neal

forreal!! its insane how this show gets me feeling emotional about the villains and thank you!! haha

Alley Box

oh dang!! i didnt think it was that bad of an episode 😳 holy shit, i aint ready for the rest and thank you!! haha, im glad ur enjoying em :D

Alley Box

yeah i heard about charisma’s age, but dangg.. i mean, at least they look passable haha

Alley Box

Giles is the charmingly awkward Englishman that Hugh Grant aspires to be.

Shandler

Fun fact along the lines of you thinking Derrel looked older. When this who premiered, Sarah Michelle Gellar was 19, Alyson Hannigan was 22, Nicholas Brendan was 25 and Charisma Carpenter was a whopping 26. So, yeah.

Brandon Scott

“Father,” but yes. She had several great one-liners in this episode.

Brandon Scott

So, this is one of only three episodes in the entire Buffyverse that I have actually never rewatched. I saw it once in 1997, and never again since. Even when other reactors do this episode, I skip it, that's how utterly disinterested I am. But for you, I'm actually watching it. That's how cool you are.

Rachel Espiritu

The scene that got me in this episode is the one that always gets me, Daryl under the stands reliving his glory days watching the football game and I always think the same thing, I can't believe they got me feeling sorry for this guy, but there's something about the music and the moment that just leaves me with a lump in my throat every time. Love your reactions Alley but then I always say that don't I?

Michael Roach

yesss i LOVE how last episodes plot had continuing effects in this episode. not many shows go that far to show it. in a lot of shows, its one and done, never bringing it up again

Alley Box

This is one of the weaker ones of the season, but only because most of the rest of this season is so strong. It's a good monster of the week episode (we've now crossed Frankenstein -- or, rather, Bride of Frankenstein -- off the classic monster checklist). I think it's actually pretty great at showing us the world of Sunnydale HS and it really nails the Friday night football vibe. And I *love* Giles and Jenny and how Giles works himself up to ask her out only to flub it fantastically and leave her to end up asking *him* out.

Pam Nail

All love to you hun

Tessa Grissom

I think Angel wearing that weird light jacket is representing the insecurities he finally verbalises at the end of the episode. He wants to present himself as someone he's not, someone Buffy would want to dance with ;) Other than that love Giles/Jenny and that's it. Filler of an episode for sure. I never cared for the classic monster stories, much less Bride of Frankenstein. And now I'm off back to sleep because it's 5 am and this lockdown very much killed my normal sleeping pattern.

DB

The show's going to make it up to you for having to sit through this ep, lol, don't you worry! Onto 2x3!

SpikesEcho

Not the best episode, but it has its moments. Anything between Giles and Miss Calendar is gold here. I also like that there are still some repercussions to Buffys dance with Xander, and Angel, as cool as he likes to play things, is still a guy who can feel jealous. He’s an actual character and not just some romanticized ideal.

Arnold Kim

Giles's little hop of joy after making the date with Ms. Calendar is everything. There's really a ton of great little moments in this one, even if it is pretty much just a "monster of the week" episode. And of course your reaction was fantastic as always. Can't wait for the next one!

ModernArtery .

i love that line! so clever haha

Alley Box

Giles + Jenny is gotta be up there on the best couples of the show.

Andres David Valencia

So are we going to talk about how Jenny said "Ms. Calendar is my Dad" Because I never noticed that line before!

Saint Mercy

Giles x Jenny OTP

Sean

The Xander=Chandler stuff in this ep is a madness

KT

Well, you've heard lots of people say there are some greaet episodes in this season - and, obviously, this isn't one of them. It's definitely filler material, while it's fairly competent, it could have fitted in almost anywhere within the first three years of the show. I do love the Xander/Cordelia moment at the end though - normally it's Queen C who is self-absorbed to the point of obliviousness.. Fun to see the tables turned on her for a moment.

Dave Ford

If you enjoyed this episode, you are in for a treat because this one is considered one of the weaker episodes of the season!

TheyCallMeJeff

I KNOW I HATE MYSELF FOR IT and i messed up her name 😭😭 am i even a millennial anymore? im gonna lose my title

Alley Box

of course! glad to be here. hope you stay safe!

Alley Box

Alley ruining an iconic Mean girls quote 😂 “butter your bagel” 😂😂

Jessie

hahaha oh god that line was so perfect

Alley Box

"Sorry, but I'm an old fashioned gal! I was raised to believe that men dig up the corpses and women have the babies." -- what I say whenever my husband asks me to do something strenuous to help lol

Kitty

Just came back from cleaning up some of the burnt buildings in Minneapolis. I’m so exhausted and honestly was just gonna turn on some Buffy anyway but this is better! Perfect timing. Thank you so much!

Samiah

im here to give u the content u need 😌

Alley Box

Fam I just gotta say I am absolutely here for ur hype over Giles it is such a mood

Wash

Stay safe, bud.

Sean

oh gosh I understand :( everything going on right now is absolutely insane, hope you stay safe

Alley Box

Thank you. I desperately needed this right now. A distraction from my burning city is greatly needed.
