My guess is this episode will grow on you as learn more about Spike and Drucilla. It's a pretty great introduction, you have to admit, from the moment he runs over the "Welcome to Sunnydale" sign all the way up to dusting the "Annoying One." It's also hard to forget an axe-wielding Joyce!

I don't know what it was, but I think him telling Xander that he would have let it happen was Angel having fun with Xander, since Xander has always been somewhat antagonistic towards Angel.
