Congrats to Feixiao for winning the February Max poll, and thanks to all my patrons for making this image possible!
I decided to use this piece to try some new techniques to see if I could streamline my workflow (When I start the commentary this way, you know I'm not as familiar with the source material) and, lo and behold, trying to figure out how to effectively implement these new techniques actually wound up taking longer than it would have if I'd just done my usual thing.
To summarize: OLM has an open source tool called "OLM Smoother" the purpose of which is to anti-alias hard, pixelated edges. The ideas is you start with hard, pixelated lines and colors so you don't have to worry about color bleed when you're doing fills, and then you apply the smoother after you're done to soften all the edges.
Well, the method I attempted to use to pixelate my line art (300% sharpening) did not work the way I wanted and actually created a situation that made the color bleed like... 5 times worse.
Don't worry, I'll get it right next time. Assuming I just don't give up.
Also, sorry I left off her jacket, but I didn't want to cover up her "guns". Though I did find myself wishing I hadn't put myself in a position where I needed to draw her *actual* gun because that thing is brutally intricate in its design. I feel no guilt about cutting corners.
