I've actually been watching Fairy Tail recently, took a break right after finishing the Tenrou Island Arc because I didn't feel like sifting through the "Key to The Starry Skys/Key to the Heavens/whatever it's called" filler arc that follows just yet, (And also I really wanted to check out the Scott Pilgrim Anime.)
As to how Lucy would wind up in this shape? Geeze, I dunno, it's 30% gag manga as it is. There's a filler where she uses a beauty potion that expired six years ago and nearly erases herself from existence so pretty much anything could happen. (Though she would probably not be half as cheery about weighing 300 pounds as I drew her here.)
