Also, I want to be clear that when Malik says "Help me protect the Bastil I love" he doesnt mean that romantically, like he's IN love with Luca. It's more familial. Still, it tears Harlo up all the same.

The problem with their relationship is mainly that Malik is far too broken and hurt from his accident to love anyone who is in the "Human research" program. Malik cant stand the humans. Harlo wants to keep his job. They live very separate lives, although Malik shows up now and again for.... you know. A good romp.
