Happy New Years! Shading techniques

I have a friend who didnt beleive me when I said I NEVER do cell shading-- and all of my shading is blended out. >_>  I personally think that this shading has become a big of a look for me-- one of the major things that makes people recognize it as a mccull artwork.

That being said however, I dont hate the cell shading as much as I thought I would... its a lot less work and gets the point across a little easier as to where the light source is coming from.

Which do you prefer? :o

I think the cell shading looks pretty awesome but I like ur original style. Like many here I think u should play around. It's good to do different things with art. Art is ment to be experimented with lol. I like speed paints of backgrounds that artists do. But for PB I like the original. 😉😁

I was surprised with how much I liked the cell shading. I am usually a blending person myself. I think you did such a great job on it, that I really liked it!!! So go on and explore it as you wish! 😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️

Lee-Loo

its defenitely something I am going to explore more in the future! :)

I already said it in insta but I do love that cell shading. I think it also brings out the emotion out a bit ¨better. I do think this is a worthwhile style for you to explore more maybe on some future projects to see if you really like it. That said I do love your comics and your old style too. I do think ppl can recognize your work even without the blending for you are a well rounded artist! <3

Hands down your normal shading style gives a superior more natural and 3D look which truly is a major defining 'style' of your handsome characters. Cell shading looks harsh in comparison, like a really bright single point light source. Hope its not too much extra work to keep the good Madeleine Method :-)

Keru

I like classic Maddie shading ^_^
