Question about TLLT print copies - thoughts or preferences on book size?

Hello Patreons!!! I have a question for you guys that I'd like for you to answer honestly.

This winter I have a goal of getting the first volume of TLLT printed, and with that comes a whole slew of challenges. Finding a good printing service, formatting, and picking things like.... what size book do I want to have?

I'd like your opinion on the sizing. As you can see above I've given two examples. The "standard" western comic book size (Bigger, the same size as Lucid's books), and the "standard" Manga size (A little smaller than Redmari's books). Each sizing has its pros and cons. For example:

The bigger size:  Is easier to read. Has the ability to be more pages (so could potentially include more extra content). Fits the theme of the story/my art style more as a "Western comic" than a manga. Easily distinguishable as a "comic" rather than a novel.

The smaller size: Costs less money to make, and therefore will cost you (maybe 5-8$) less to buy. Not having to size up the panels as much means there's less risk of them looking fuzzy. Easier to take places with you/fits on your bookshelf.

There are some other things that I'll have to consider behind the scenes as to which size will work better for me-- and I'm leaning towards the larger size-- But Rowdy seems to favor the smaller one.

Please be honest if you have a preference! Tell me why you think one over the other, or if it doesn't matter to you... or anything else insightful. :) As Fall is approaching/my con season is ending soon, I want to be able to start formatting pages for real.

Thanks!

Not too late!! Thank you for the input :) it seems the larger size is more favored here so that's likely what I'll shoot for.

Hope I'm not too late to pitch in! But personally I prefer the larger size, but I would also LOVE to be able to put TLLT right next to my copy of your printed ARCO volume 1. Either way, of course I'll support and your works will always sit pretty right next to Avialae on my shelf 💚💚

Kaila Respicio

Ahahah I appreciate that! Thank you lol

Mccull

Thank you! :) it seems the preference is leaning towards larger.

Mccull

I definitely prefer the large size with the possibility of extra content but I'd be happy to get a physical copy in any form!

My eyeballs prefer the bigger size. but I think you should do what is best for Mccull. The rest of us can just suck it up and deal with it.

If I were buying it, I'd probably prefer the second one. Avialae is a ride, but my word that's a big and thick book. And i feel it's more room for rearranging and resizing panels, especially since the format for each update is long (which patreon's app annoys me for, because to be able to read it on Android, i have to save the page to my device and read it in the gallery xD) I'm not sure how much the fourth one gives you for panel sizing, or how it affects the thiccness of the book in your hands up and down its spine through the pages with your fingers The very least think Spurs and Stripes is a reasonable minimum. Don't want the text to be too small and unreadable. Unless they are the same size and the angle is deceiving me

Nevermind about printing, I focused too much on the books you gave as an example.

I enjoy bigger size more cos it is more comfortable, but the smaller size has some crucial pragmatic advantages. Patreon always shows your comic fuzzy so I have to download each strip to read it (don’t worry, I don’t send it to anyone, after all there is a free version on Tapas), and it is in really great quality. Is it possible for you to print out some pages in a bigger size to see if the size messes up with the quality? But as it was stated by others, both sizes will work.

Much appreciated! ♡ thank you

Thank you for the input! 😌

Thank you for your input! :)

I like the big one. I have Avialae and it fits nicely in the hand.

I like the right side but I think either would work.

Between the two, I prefer the larger. Only because it will showcase your hard work and talent better. You know it's a day one purchase for me either way. 😁😁

♡ thank you for the input! The size of the text is definitely easier to read with bigger pages

Mccull

Thank you for the input!!! I like the idea of the themes matching the size of the book too lol

My eyes aren't so good anymore, I squint a lot, so I prefer the bigger size, in my opinion :)

I like the larger size. It feels like it would give your artwork and the story itself more room to breathe. As a road trip story taking place across the USA, the more expansive size feels like it would visually support and enhance the story you are telling. That's just my opinion, though! :)
