Quest Failed: Chapter Two - Dev Log #117

Hiya there! I hope everyone is doing well!

I'm back right at the end of the month with another dev log, hurray!

Admittedly this one will be a little less flashy than the previous two while I'm in the midst of some stuff, but I'll still do my best to keep you all updated on what I've been working on this past week, and what I intend to work on for the next week!

So, right now one of my biggest focuses has been on finishing quite a crucial main story segment that the current alpha build started. Without spoiling too much, it's quite a dramatic, flashy encounter, where I've went all out with effects and transitions between quite a large range of dedicated illustrations that exist primarily for this battle. Combined together with the awesome music and sound effects I have, I feel the encounter is quite intense--and didn't expect it to fit together as well as it did. I dunno if I'm quite at the level of how Fate/Stay Night puts together its action scenes--but that VN has always been a big inspiration for me, and one of the stories that pushed me into writing my own visual novels to begin with. So I can only hope one day to achieve that level of flashiness with combat scenes, haha.

So alongside wrapping up that key story scene (where things really start to ramp up in terms of the main scenario progression) I've also been steadily fleshing out a select few side events that I've been itching to flesh out more. This includes what I hope to be a fun conclusion to a certain fishy arc that was set up between two sisters, alongside quite a bizarre (but still quite erotic!) scene that can unfold for poor Matt if he continues to be careless with his money. For the latter scene, I've had it on my mind for quite some time--but have never known quite how to approach it in regards to writing it out in script form. But I think I have a good foundation now that I'll be fleshing out in between the other segments.

The real challenge right now has been trying to remain focused on just a couple of events at a time--as I want to keep things manageable between future builds of the game--and want to avoid a repeat of how things spiraled out of control for the 0.10 version that was but a mythical legend for quite some time, haha. Because even if I do spread my workload out and make a bit of progress across many events--it's not conducive to getting individual scenes completed and allowing for faster alpha releases. So I've been trying to adjust my mindset in that regard, and will see how it goes!

I have so many notes planned out for scenes across .txt files on my computer, and notes made on my phone--sometimes I'm paralyzed for choice on where to begin next after I finish wrapping up a character's scene. It's like, do I keep up the momentum of this one character I'm writing for, and dive straight into their next CG scene, or do I take a break from them and work on another character so I can come back to them later feeling refreshed and ready to tackle them with a fresh mindset as to avoid getting too bogged down in their stuff. If someone were to discover my notes they'd confuse them for the ramblings of a mad person, I'm sure, haha--since they only make sense to me, with weird dialogue snippets and fractured sentences that I intended to elaborate on in the script itself. But as chaotic as it all is, I find there really is a method to it all--and somehow in the end I'm able to cobble it all together into something halfway readable!

Oh yeah, and while I'm not sure on when it'll be ready to go--I'm working on a small update video too to showcase too which will be fully voiced, like a fun skit sort of thing. But it's made that way for a very specific purpose and will showcase some important stuff regarding the development of the game. Of which I'll discuss at great length once the video is out--but until then I'll just have to keep teasing you about it and let your mind wander!

And that about wraps up this dev log! As always, if you have any questions about things, don't hesitate to ask and I'll do my best to answer!

Also I apologise if this dev log seems clumsily written (as if they all aren't lol) as I'm currently adjusting to a human sleeping schedule again and have been a bit lethargic and slow the last couple of days. Hopefully I'll be back up to full speed by tomorrow, though and can start planning out the next fun dev log which will tease some more new art for a saucy scene with a sassy snek.

Thanks again as always for your amazing support and I love you all~ <3

Let's welcome May with open arms! (I hear there's something about MerMay, the month of mermaids? We'll have to try and do something special for that, won't we?)

Until next time!
