Quest Failed: Chapter Two - Dev Log #128

Hiya there, everyone! I hope you're all doing well!

I've been continuing to plug away at things since I've last spoken to you all, and I'm happy to be back with a new dev log!

My main focus right now after getting that last hefty alpha update out has been trying to look at how I approach my workflow, and avoid getting bogged down in anyone aspect for too long. I've been trying to find a healthy balance of pure writing, and then going back to script things out, and then continuing. As if I do too much writing at once, or get bogged down in too much code, it can often feel exhausting and really drain me. I'm hoping by being a bit more balanced, I can avoid the fatigue that often comes from giving 200% to either task. So we'll see how this turns out! My goal is to get a lot of pending h-scenes done and try to do everything in my power to not take months for the next update. So wish me luck!

And for this particular dev log, I realise it's been a little while since I've last posted a flashy CG of sorts, so I wanted to share a piece that was recently done by the ever talented Deverish! Initially this scene didn't have any art associated with it, and was just another one of Matt's typical blunders where through no fault of his own he somehow finds himself stumbling into a pair of giant breasts--but since I'm a sucker for this kind of silly harem trope, and really loved how this moment turned out, I decided to get a small cut-in of it--and gosh do I love how it turned out!

I think the perfect angle was chosen here, where we get the perfect view of Cynthia's regal assets and Matt's dazed expression--while also strategically hiding Cynthia's own reaction. One can only imagine how such a prim and proper knight might react to such an invasion of her personal space. Is it a one-way trip to the dungeon for our pint-sized adventurer for accidentally sexually harassing her, or will he somehow get lucky and survive, like he always seems to do in these kinds of situations? Either way, it makes for a nice moment~

I want to stress I won't be going crazy with these cut-in moments, as the art and scenes are locked for the most part, but on the odd occasion while I'm writing that I feel some small moment might be better illustrated with a specific cut-in, be it story related or otherwise, I won't hesitate to have it fleshed out! Because sometimes, sheer imagination and flailing sprites just don't do the job! And sometimes, I really do like the smaller 'ecchi' moments that aren't just full h-scenes. Variety is the spice of life after all! My goal is to keep you all on your toes for when you might see a fancy CG next, and never to feel too formulaic or stale with how these things end up.

It also gives me the opportunity to have just a touch more voiced dialogue outside of pure h-scenes, too--as I always add voice to every CG moment for emphasis, be it sex related or otherwise. Sort of like how Danganronpa approached it!

I hope you enjoy this visual treat~ As admittedly, it gets tough to showcase some parts when I'm trying to keep so many aspects a surprise still, with some hidden characters and scenes associated with them.

So I want to ask you all directly--will you be happy sometimes if some dev logs have no art attached to them at all, or do you feel it's important for there to be a visual aspect alongside the progress report? Because I certainly can write paragraph upon paragraph of what I've been up to, and game history and fun bits of trivia on development--but I never know if this is too exciting for people. Or, if the screenshots and CG teases are the main appeal. Let me know if you'd be happy for me to mix things occasionally, or if I should stick to the formula I have. I certainly wouldn't want to upset people by changing how I approach them this many years in.

This about wraps up this week's dev log--but hopefully I'll have something to post before the end month, too if all goes well! Back to the grind I go, and thank you as always for reading!

Until next time~

Do what you think is right

AlphaRaptor

Text only is fine. Honestly even tho the art is a nice touch I'm generally more interested in hearing about the games progress.

Aaron

I wouldn't mind only text updates, afterall it's always exciting to hear what you've done with the game.

vind

I wouldn't mind if these updates sometimes had no art, I just like to read about the progress.

lab637

I think a good mix of both is perfect because having to much of one or the other will drain the excitement.
