Summer 2023 Patroncast Submissions - Now Shockingly Closed

Hello!

It is currently summer. Everybody can agree that. Except for folks in the southern hemisphere, I guess. But mostly we can agree it's summer. And that means it's time for the Summer Patroncast, which is how we're going to fix this mess of a naming protocol.

Just in case you're new, this submission thread is where you get to ask questions, suggest topics, or dramatically switch allegiance from Cameron to Shock in the XCOM 2 Badass Contest.

So ask away, and I'll update this post when the Patroncast is recorded, so as long as there isn't an edit below saying that, everything should be good :)

EDIT - Incredibly, the Patroncast has been recorded, as the ancient scrolls foretold.

I should add, though, I am not sure when this episode will come out - there's a lot of stuff happening at once in August, so we're a bit ludicrously busy at the moment. I shall explain all in the Patroncast itself.

All the best,

Jon

Oh no I didn't even think of that! I just think they are neat! D:

Smitje

I have finally read Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Oh my god. What was British humour like before this book? This might be a silly question but have either of you read it?

Zac Thompson

It's not all flashy cars and fast living, huh? :P

Canadas Bacon

Thankfully I too now have a chameleon boost pack

Many A True Nerd

I'm afraid I'm really not qualified to comment on this - it's always sad to see a team shut down, but I know nothing about the team or the game.

Many A True Nerd

Neither of us have, but it sounds like a cool one for me - I may well give it a look :)

Many A True Nerd

This feels like extraordinarily niche content, and I'm afraid I would not suitably appreciate it!

Many A True Nerd

This is a very good point!

Many A True Nerd

This is a lovely idea - I shall try to sneak Bort into Starfield somewhere.

Many A True Nerd

Ha - cute, but I'm not sure there's an entire series in there.

Many A True Nerd

That's a lot of pets! And you'll definitely get another BG3 stream at some point :)

Many A True Nerd

I'm afraid that's a bit more of a personal question than I'd be comfortable answering.

Many A True Nerd

<3

Many A True Nerd

Ok, that is ADORABLE.

Many A True Nerd

We do, but with separate personal accounts, and we would rather keep that to ourselves if that's ok - just as some of the people we support aren't that large, and we wouldn't want to accidentally harm our own privacy.

Many A True Nerd

I assume this was written before Mox's miraculous rescue! This therefore proves he was innocent of all crimes.

Many A True Nerd

I feel like these bee questions were designed to attack poor Claire who is scared of bees :P

Many A True Nerd

I always appreciate thoughts on end cards :)

Many A True Nerd

It's a series of polls held on the Community tab that lets the community pick the next few series - the last one was a long time ago, because the winner was Oblivion, and that series was VERY long - the next will likely be in 2024.

Many A True Nerd

And you shall have it... I just don't know when precisely.

Many A True Nerd

You're younger - but only just.

Many A True Nerd

... I'm deducting 5 MATN Points. If you currently have 0, that puts you on -5.

Many A True Nerd

That's fair enough and fully understandable with the explanation you've given in the series (or if I imagined that) Either way since this question answered itself before this patreoncast I have a replacement for you: What's your fondest memory of Tabby?

Eliza Kontiokari

I'm going to answer here just in case anybody else doesn't want spoilers - I actually like it. It's so common to have a Star Wars story where a character is tempted by the dark side, then does one dark side thing, and then chooses the light after all. I just enjoyed that Cal straight-up realised that embracing darkness gave him power, and that this was useful to him right at that moment. It feels much more interesting to me.

Many A True Nerd

Sadly, the series is of course now done - but it would have been incredibly easy for a character to just stroll through the New Vegas plot, so it just didn't seem interesting to me.

Many A True Nerd

All credit goes to Cameron :P

Many A True Nerd

I live in Britain - best I can manage is sending even more clouds :(

Many A True Nerd

Ahhh, without spoilers, my ship will be getting a name in the coming week or so.

Many A True Nerd

While it's not impossible (in fact, I suspect dyspraxia is likely), as I don't really feel the need for any medication or accommodations, I'm happy without ever needing any form of diagnosis - my life seems to run fine as it is.

Many A True Nerd

No promises. Some days devolving into a puddle of protoplasm sounds relaxing.

Many A True Nerd

You're very welcome - we do what we can :)

Many A True Nerd

Honestly, I did not realise the grenades were superior damage, somehow I thought they were less base damage with an added effect...

Many A True Nerd

Yes it was great! Thanks Jon! 😃

Spooky_Basil

Ha - a cute idea. Oddly, I never really plan your my characters are going to go in terms of roleplay - that just sort of happens as I go.

Many A True Nerd

Retroactively confirmed!

Many A True Nerd

The mentions of Tabby should now be tidied up. The weird things being a YouTuber means you have to do, eh?

Many A True Nerd

I hate everything.

.? đŸ„č Also, thank you for the response on the Iliad article in the Economist from my last pareoncast submission. Made my day 😂. I’ve copied/pasted the full article below, in case you ever need some ragebait, but no need to read/comment on it, unless you feel so inclined: The iliad” is a story of glory and gods, revenge and mercy, death and immortality. Squint hard enough and it is also a workplace saga. The epic kicks off with a big row between a pair of co-workers called Agamemnon and Achilles. The gods are the senior leadership team, descending from on high to cause complete chaos. For most of the book Achilles, a prototype of the talented jerk, is on strike. This is a big problem for the Greek management team, who have lost their best performer. A delegation from hr fails to win Achilles over. Eventually, however, he returns to the office, and all is well (Trojans may disagree). The parallels between the 21st-century workplace and “The Iliad” are admittedly inexact. There are fewer swords and spears glinting in the rosy-fingered dawn today; there is a bit less brain matter on the floor. But to see the modern connections to Homer’s epic, look at Achilles’s preparations to go back to work. Now I shall arm myself for war,” he says in Book 19. The arming of Achilles is the forebear of gearing-up scenes ever since, from Chaucer to Rambo. But it also has echoes of current daily rituals. Achilles puts on bronze greaves and shining breastplates; employees choose clothes that they don’t wear at the weekend. Achilles puts on his golden-plumed helmet; commuters don their Bose headphones. The Homeric hero takes up a shield forged by Hephaestus, the god of fire. The office worker stuffs a laptop and charger into a rucksack. Most of this white-collar arming takes place inside the home, but not all. It also happens en route to the battlefield, as compacts emerge and make-up is applied on the Tube. Sometimes the transformation takes place in the office itself. Trainers are swapped for heels. Lycra-clad colleagues disappear from view and emerge in something less off-putting. Battle may be close but it does not arrive instantly, whether you are the king of the Myrmidons or Barry from accounts. Both have thresholds to cross before the real action begins. In Homer’s epic, Achilles has been sitting out the war in an encampment; his appearance on the seashore is when the Greeks learn that he is going to rejoin the fray. There is a feast before the fighting starts (Achilles refuses to eat; perhaps there wasn’t a vegan option). Once armed, he gets on his chariot and goes to the front “resplendent as the sun-god Hyperion”. For remote workers the gap between their personal and professional lives may be narrow: the walk from the fridge to the living room (and back again, and back again). That is a problem. Entering the workplace means putting on a different persona as well as different clothes—you, but with added self-control. The transition is easier to make when there are clear boundaries separating home and work. Office-goers have many more thresholds to cross. They emerge onto the street in the morning and make the journey towards their desks. They enter a cafĂ© for their morning coffee; carrying a cup and walking briskly is the simplest way to let fellow citizens know you are gainfully employed. At some point they will have their first encounter with a fellow employee. If they are very unfortunate, this meeting will occur at the start of the commute and involve excruciating small talk on public transport for 40 minutes. Normally, it will just mean that the office is close. Workers must then make their entry into the office itself. There are security guards to greet, passes to swipe and lift buttons to press. Visitors to the office will participate in an extra arming scene at this point, in which they sign their names illegibly into a register and are given a lanyard. Hyperion, indeed. The moment for action is now imminent. Outside the walls of Troy, Achilles springs forward like “a fierce lion”; a cycle of carnage begins that will end with the death of Hector. The white-collar worker must make final preparations for the day ahead, too. The rucksack comes off, and the computer switches on. The salaried hero springs forward, jaws foaming, to take a last bite of croissant; crumbs fleck the keyboard and the carpet. The password is entered, the loading wheel spins, the heart rate remains exactly the same. It’s time. Homer would never have made a name for himself with an office-based epic: death and glory guarantee a more dramatic narrative than email and meetings. But when you put on your work clothes, change into your professional self and pitilessly strike your first key, you are more than just a foot-soldier. You are a tiny Achilles.

Reformed Nerd

FYI Jon the about section of the patreon still mentions "monthly pictures of Tabby", so probably needs a bit of tidying

Canadas Bacon

Jon, I’ve been rewatching your Fallout 76 and how to fix it video essay. You make the point there that the lessons Bethesda took away from that experience would affect the next Fallout game and likely all future Bethesda titles. Now that you’re playing Starfield do you feel like you see any lessons learned (good or bad) from the Fallout 76 experience reflected in the game design?

Mark Peckham

Do you miss the planet grid management of Stellaris on release? I kind of miss the puzzle aspect of it.

Dragmire

So now that XCOM2 is over i wanted to share a few things about your run. I found it weird that despite you loving to use grenades in xcom 2 you never bothered to get the acid, incendiary, or gas bombs which do more base damage then plasma grenades and apply an extra DoT effect. Their actually is a way to reduce time recovering from tiredness. The templars have a resistance order that reduces the time to recover by 20%. That order seams to be very rare though as I usually don't see it until year 2 or 3 years have passed in game. Also all that mention of the avatar project speeding up is just flavor text. I spent 3 in game years before the last mission and nothing happened. The avatar project actually slows down late game to the point that it's about 2 months between every new base and retaliation. Also late game the council keeps giving you the capture vip mission so that you don't get soft locked by not having enough supplies or intel. Actually i do have a question. If you where to play xcom 2 again which of the advanced options would you turn on? Beta strike is really interesting as it means a lot of abilities like serial, death from above, and reaper no longer wipe squads because the enemies have too much health to one shot. Abilities like rupture and chain shot become a lot more useful. Grim Horizons is quite inconsistent as it doesn't actually effect all dark events and a lot of dark events eventually become non applicable late game. Precession Explosives seams like it would be the most impactful on your play style.

MrGhosta5

Feels like playing fallout 4 without vats. Interiors tend to be very small and many exteriors are just kilometers of barren land without any cover. This causes a situation where most of the time your either engaging from less then 10m or more then 300 meters. That means a lot of the mid range weapons are useless because you're either way to close or way too far from the enemy for them to be effective. Melee is really bad because you don't have blitz to safely close distance anymore. Also most interiors in Starfield are made of small square and rectangle rooms stuck together so there's not much room to sneak around enemies for a sneak attack. Skyrim and Fallout 4 used a lot of big cubes connected by long tunnels. The much larger rooms left space for Bethesda to add things like boxes, shelves, bookcases, etc for the player to use to sneak around or use as cover. The illusion spells are actually usable late game because their level cap is (depending on the exact spell) 10 or 20 levels higher then the player level. Illusion was bad late game in skyrim because the illusion spells would stop working because the enemies would scale up past the spells level cap. In fallout 4 the illusion spells only worked on enemies lower then your level so they never worked on the highest tier enemies which were always scaled to your level. A single lv 59 super mutant primus isn't going to do anything to 3 lv 80+ super mutant warlords.

MrGhosta5

You often will hear that the gunplay in Fallout games is sub-par, and is held up by the VTAS system. How are you liking the combat in Starfield so far without the VATS system to fall back on?

Jeff

Jon! Fuck, Marry, Kill! The Kiddie Kingdom Ghoul, Cannibal Johnsons bear trap, and the Olympic Javelin Ghost person.

Zac Thompson

Oh Jon, extra question! I know you are amazing at predicting things so what do you think will Starfield DLC be about? I put money on; Outposts, Shipbuilding and plants. Building a spacestation would also be something neat. I might have a slight SF addiction atm, I like your approach of making a flying base I went all into Outposts instead and I think you made the better choice if you figure it all out.

Smitje

Hola Jon! I was just watching the Behind the Scenes livestream from Feb 2021 where you made end cards. What happened to those? Did you ever get around to using them in your videos?

Smoofdoof (Courtney)

Curious if you've considered one offs for JRPG-inspired Chained Echoes and Sea of Stars? I found both to take interesting spins on the genre.

TheWastelandLawyer

Jon, how are deaf people treated in the ancient world? Has there been a famous deaf Greek/Roman?

Luis

Jon, which ship from ftl would you most like to have in starfield? (let's assume that every component will work the same in starfield)

Anna D

Yo jon I want to give mr sneaky a quick fyi that a chameleon suit exists in starfield and lucky me found it

De Chef

I know your busy with Starfield. But can you please still do a livestream of XCOM 2 on the hardest difficulty like last time? 🙏

Spooky_Basil

Hi Claire, Jon and Ted! With Starfield now out it got me thinking. How do you balance wanting to simply binge play a new game, and playing just enough for a few episodes at a time so you don't end up miles ahead of the current "live" episode of the series? Or do you simple not ? Will we be watching episodes of Starfield you have recorded over the first weekend for the next 6 weeks 😜

Arwen

Hi Jon & Claire! Hope you are still well! FMK: movement speed, wonky Bethesda physics, infinite scalability Suppose you get to design new evolutions for a team of 6 Pokémon. Which Pokemon would you choose, what would you do for their evolutions (in terms of designs, stats, abilities, types)?

Steve Alberts

Do you play with controller just to avoid camera shake for us?

Andris Grīnbergs

Jon, I just finished watching your Stellaris Impossible Run, would you wish me a happy Zarqlan day? There have been quite a few updates since your last Stellaris run, are there any origins that have been added in that you’re particularly excited to try?

Mark Peckham

Hey Jon, just had an idea for your starfield character. They are a Xenobiologist who got wrapped into this whole thing to pay the bills, but I think something kind interesting you could maybe do is that when they were younger they were more starry eyed and adventerous, but god jaded over time, and I think that could be a interesting idea to play with, either reigniting a love for exploring via the story or coming to see it all as idealistic nonsense

Ryan Towers

Jon, if in starfield you had to choose between having parents and having a mortgage, which would you choose?

Anna D

Hello Jon - I've been buying you a fancy coffee for years at this point and have remained largely silent as I enjoy your videos. I'm so disappointed in the way Bethesda has treated you and Claire. I'm glad you got a copy and I'm looking forward to all the adventures you take us on. Best of luck! Your American friend from Indiana bids you well!! JT

Josh ford

Hello Jon, I'm sure you're aware of the guy requesting a zoo tycoon video in every video's comment section, so, what's coming first? Zoo Tycoon, the next obra dinn episode or the heat death of the universe? Glad you could get a code for Starfield in time, shame it had to be this stressful.

Steve

Hello John Clair and Ted I was curious about what was the first content that you got a code for from the developer for and what the first sponsored video was Oh and I’ll let you. Of saying happy birthday as I should have asked in July for my August birthday 😂 Have a great month all

De Chef

Can you share pics of the new office setup? Also, what is the Ted setup in the new office, considering he likes to sleep under your chair? Does he have a bed or a sofa? Super excited for Starfield!

Erstwhile Egret

An important question, likely on everyone's mind, concerning your playthrough of Starfield. Are you going to try and make extra principal payments on your mortgage or just the standard monthly payment?

Brandon Freeze

Might be too late to discuss at this point, but with the sad news about Mimimi closing their doors after the release of 'Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew' (https://twitter.com/MimimiProd/status/1696501045780746521) I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts, either on the studio itself, or the state/future of real time tactics games in general.

have you seen this shouty possum

Hello, Jon! Hope you and your loved ones are doing well! I have a little question about hubris. In the XCOM2 series there were some moments when you were overconfident and the game punished you for that (the Archon Queen, sending the rookies on a mission.. etc.;). Which of course makes for great comedy;) Do you like when games find a way to put the player back into their place? What moments in your videos when you were punished for being too confident do you remember?

Tomasz Sola

Jon, wondering if you or Claire have read Babel? It's a historical fiction piece, and the reason I ask is because it takes place very much in and around Oxford, and is a very faithful recreation as I understand it barring a few allowances for the story. On top of this it deals heavily with translation and languages, along with lots of other stuff. Not sure if it's something for either of you, but figured it was worth the asking! Hope you are all doing well.

Dylan Schultz

Salutations, Manya! :P You've mentioned some games you're hesitant to put on the channel due to low views (i.e. Nintendo & Resident Evil). What would the channel look like content-wise if views weren't an issue (for instance, if every video generated the same amount of views/revenue)?

Brian Bitner

Fuck, marry, kill Skies of Arcadia Fallout new Vegas Elden ring

Harry Gilson

Hello both, hope you’re having a lovely time. Given the Quake 2 video you clearly have some love for this kind of shooter - if you have a similar affinity for Doom I would highly recommend looking at a custom map for Doom II called MyHouse.wad. It is an incredibly interesting project based on concepts from ergodic literature like House of Leaves and liminal spaces. Not sure it would make a hugely successful video (though I’d personally love to see it), but it is worth looking into in its own right. There is an excellent video essay by a channel called Power Pak on it.

James Clegg

Hello Jon, it’s my birthday on the same day as the Starfield release. Can you sing me happy birthday in the voice of a ghoul in space?

GeekMeetsWorld

Hey Jon and Claire! Hope you’re having a wonderful month (or two). Since the patroncast will probably come after the release, how are you finding Starfield? Especially say compared to other Bethesda games?

sublime

Jon what's your favorite advert?

Ian Albreski

Jon, MATN’s videos are somewhat unique in their structure (i.e. much longer etc.) amongst gaming channels, especially those of similar size to yours. what made you choose/stick with this style of video over more “conventional” styles, and how has the algorithm treated you for it?

Bouncyrou

In the world of Fallout 4 Crowd Control, I think the Institute had the correct goal with isolation from the world. Hope it was as fun to play as it was to watch! Also, happy belated birthday Jon!

Dragmire

Synths. What do you think you would do if you were in the world of fallout 4 - you have a family that you love. One of the members of your family get swapped with a synth. For a few years you have lived happily with your family and the synth however recently someone tells you that your loved one is a synth and was replaced two years ago. They have the paper work and dna stuff to prove that your love one is now a replacement. What do you do?

Row white

Happy... Summer! Yeah, that'll sort it. Jon, I'm back into watching the older classic seasons of The Simpsons, what is your favourite episode from this era, and what is your favourite joke/bit aswell? Claire, what is it like working with your brother-partner full time? I know for a fact my girlfriend would really struggle with this as I am prone to being a pain in the arse. Also for Claire, have you read or heard of Legends and Lattes? From my understanding its like DnD fantasy type characters running a coffee shop. Ted, I have a new puppy, do you want a brother? He is free.

Zac Thompson

What's your favorite piece of video game merch you've ever had? Also, in memoriam the livestream casualties, I vote you name your Starfield or next Fallout series character Bort

missingno

Given your birthday stream, what's more annoying: people spawning suiciders or fallout giving you bad legendaries?

Robert Farmer

Hi Jon, Claire and Ted. Jon I had an idea for a new Fallout 4 run you could do: A Boone Run! Survival, Only weapons allowed is one rifle and one knife (you can upgrade but have to get rid of your old one), No working with the Institute or Railroad.. Oh and you'd have to equip a beret at all times once you've found one!

Matthew Richardson

Hi Jon, I am a long-time viewer of the channel but I've always struggled to get into Fallout, even though the premise of Fallout does sound interesting to me and I love other Bethesda titles such as the elder scrolls games something has stopped me enjoying it, My question to you this month is as someone with very little knowledge universe and someone looking to get into the fallout franchise, what one of the many fallout series you've done on the channel would be the best to watch as a beginner to help me get into and understand the lore and universe of fallout?

Helixspace

Hi Jon, Claire and Ted. I hope Jon and Claire enjoyed France and Ted has started enjoying this summer. It was my birthday between patroncasts but I will still be recovering from a total knee replacement operation for the 'summer' one, so can I please have a happy birthday in a style that (in a similar way to the the KOTOR series opening credits) has to be adapted for copyright purposes?

Leftback

Hi Jon, Claire and Ted hope you all had a good rest on your mini break you deserve it. Jon: With the inevitable remake of Pokémon Black and White would you be playing it either privately or on the channel as a one off video?. Claire: With Netflix announcing a animated adaption of Scott Pilgram. Is there any books you'd like to see get the animated treatment?.

Yorkshire Bhoy

What are some of the most baffling games that you've ever played(baffling as in Deadly Premonition weirdness, not as in 'it's baffling why Redfall/XIII remake/etc.. is so terrible.)

Dragmire

Hi Jon! Hope you are all doing well, please give Ted a pat and a treat for each submission you get :P I know Baulders Gate 3 is a BIG game, and a series probably wouldnt be too feasible, but I would love to catch maybe a livestream where the chat gets to decide major decisions, similar to the Life is Strange streams. Also, I would like to point out that most characters seem to be killable, including the children... Kill everything Baulders Gate???

mrvalane

Hi Jon, hope you Claire and Ted are all well! I'm currently reading through Homers Iliad with the intention of jumping to The Odyssey afterwards but I'm struggling to wrap my head around what I need to take in. When you read the through the Iliad what did you take a note of and why?? Also thank you for lasts month's suggestions I'm also reading through Sophocles's work and finding that alot easier to follow!

Callum Merry-Taylor

Happy birthday Jon. Jon have you ever considered marrying Claire even if it's just for the spousal rights?

MrGhosta5

Wrex. Tuchanka already is a post nuclear war wasteland.

MrGhosta5

The late game does get pretty easy as eventually every soldier that joins as a mission reward, scanning reward, or bought from the black market joins as a colonel with enough AP to buy the important skills. Also late game almost every weapon mods and pcs is superior . The soft cap for monthly supplies is just over 1k/month. The only thing that's difficult to replace is lv 3 soldier bonds because they take a long time to build and advanced equipment because cores take a long time to farm and it still takes up to two weeks for some items to be built. Late game missions are mostly a loop of the council mission to extract/capture a vip. Guerilla Ops which can be mostly ignored as most dark events at that point have little or no effect, and the occasional resistance mission. You also start getting retaliation missions and new advent bases every 6+ weeks instead of every month.

MrGhosta5

Good evening Jon, Claire, and Teddy! We have no questions but do hope you have a well-deserved lovely day today! Many thanks for all of the entertainment, much of which has provided us with much-needed sanity over the past year. Much love! -Elie and Scott C.

HelloJon, Claire and Ted! Hope you had a good holiday. A YouTuber said he does have Starfield on his XBox for review. So, do you? And how is the editing going on that (provided you did get it)? LOL Regardless, looking forward to your first episode! That's all I'm going to watch until I play it myself.

Joseph Morita

Jon, did you ever play The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks on the DS? If so, how did you feel about how it handled locking Zelda in a bin compared to other zelda games?

Anna D

Hi Jon. As it's currently your birthday as I write this, could you give yourself a (probably belated at this point) happy birthday in a voice that you wish would be requested more often? All the best :)

Jon! When playing a new game (i.e. Starfield), how soon do you start thinking about alternate playstyles, challenge runs, etc.? Are these on your mind your first time, or do you try to just focus on the playthrough at hand?

Brian Bitner

Have you considered migrating from Twitter (X now...) to another platform? I've enjoyed your tweets, but the platform feels worse weekly and I'm trying to migrage myself to Threads. Thoughts?

David DiCiurcio

Hi Jon and Claire. Does Ted have a favourite spot or plant or thing to do in the garden? And did you grow anything this year? Hope you had a successful and relaxing vacation, and that poor Ted's itchy allergies go and stay away.

Kymberly Fergusson

If YOLO ever transmigrates to the elder scrolls universe which game would you start with?

Dean McCaffrey

Questions for editing Claire: My fiancee and I are thinking about going to France for our honeymoon, so three quick questions related to that: 1) Would November be a good time to go? We want to avoid the summer crowds and have extra time off around then. 2) If we went for two weeks, where would you suggest other than Paris? I'm advocating for some time in Brittany, while she wants to go to Nice or somewhere else on the French Riviera. 3) Any other suggestions for a two week trip?

Roman Totale

Jon, as someone who (in the nicest way possible) has seen more years than I have, do you think political discourse has gotten worse in the last 10ish years than it has been in recent history (or at least in ur lifetime) or is it just being more politically aware on my part? If it's the former, why do you think that is?

Canadas Bacon

Hey Jon, given that timings are a little uncertain right now, I'm getting in early for September birthdays. Assuming this is going out before or around the 18th of September (edit, lol, please do this anyway), could I get a happy birthday for Adam in your preferred voice? Also, tacking onto Oliver's merch question, is there a coaster update?

octarinecharlie

Hey Jon! Last month you absolutely roasted some motorbikes (including my current bike and my dream bike) so this months I’m gonna give you a few more 😆 FMK Honda goldwing husqvarna svartpilen 401 Harley Davidson pan America Still working on forgiveness after you called my bike a lawnmower pretending to be a motorcycle haha

Hi Jon, long time lurker, first time asker! It's my birthday next week and I was wondering if there was any updates on MATN merch? You mentioned once getting cuddly egg carton plushies and I need that in my life, keep up the good work!

Have you played any more BG3, and if so how are you getting on with it? How did you find the game as a non-D&D player?

Jon and Claire, do you support any of your fellow creators on patreon? If so, who? Do you engage with or otherwise consume any of their patreon-exclusive content?

Anna D

Jon! Why do you think Mox has been abandoned by the xcom team? Is it something about the skirmishers as a faction? Does Mox have skeletons in his closet that we don't know about? If so, what could they be? Please speculate

Roland

Hi Jon, Claire, and Ted, I hope your summer is going well! Have you been watching the Women’s Soccer World Cup? At time of writing I’m watching the UK vs AUS semi-final match. Do you follow any sports? Please give Ted many kisses

It's my pomeranian's birthday on 15 August. Can Ted wish her a happy birthday, preferably in the form of howls or whines?

DuckHunter

Jon, I've been watching your XCOM2 run and it's been fun and fascinating to watch. Barring the advice the comments are offering in each video, if you did a fresh run, is there anything you would have tried differently?

ZVL

Just saw a game called No Sun to Worship. Looks like a fun one-off if you liked the early splinter cell games

kevlarmenace

Hi! Despite being American I love British comedy shows, are you guys fans of taskmaster/would I lie to you/8 out of 10 cats? Or any other panel shows that you enjoy?

Logan Natvig

Jon is it okay that I have felt a great sense of schadenfreude from watching everyone lose their minds over your blessed xcom 2 series?

Anna D

Hi Jon, hi Claire! How do you feel about bees? I have a game recommendation. 'APICO' a beekeeping game, the small indie team that makes that game has some other interesting projects in the pipeline. I think Snacktorio would be something you'd enjoy? Did you know meat eating bees exist? How does that make you feel? Sadly they don't produce enough honey to harvest for humans they just make enough for themselves. So Starfield, I have a lot, a lot thoughts about it but not going to annoy you with all of them. Big issue for me now is that I can't rename outfits so something is not right.. Do you think they will add a survival mode? I think it would be nice if the survival options were loose from difficult so it is more accessible. I'd love to be able to have a diet made out of only chunks (the square foods). Do you know about the YouTube series 'Puppet History' by Watcher? It focusses a lot on more normally unseen characters in history. Also at what moment did you stop watching the Walking Dead? Claire do you use the English way of marking to five or the French way? I recently learned there are multiple ways of turfing.

Hi Jon Alternative reality time: You're now a historian, which of the following would be your special subject and why: - The "dark ages" and great migration, as depicted in Total War: Attila - Feudal High Medieval Europe, as depicted in Medieval: Total War (2), and of course CK2 - Feudal Japan, as depicted in Shogun: Total War - (sort of) early Chines history, as depicted in Total War: Three Kingdoms Bonus question: Do you listen to "The Rest is History" podcast? If not, I recommend Episode 216 "Pigeons" as a teaser

El Manni

Well, this new naming scheme means I've missed my chance at a timely birthday wish on the 14th of August. Can I get a happy birthday from smooth jazz Jon? Also, are there any fallout 4 details you'd like to explore and explain like you're now doing with fallout 3, but haven't had the chance to yet?

Jorg2 - the Heinlein that troopers your starship instantly

Hi Jon, Claire, and Ted! A nice simple one for you; fuck/marry/kill planes, trains, and automobiles. Edit to add: I’ve remembered that it’s my birthday on the 23rd, so could I get a Happy Birthday from Feral Ghoul Jon please?

Martin Cox

Can you list some contenders for games of the year? Also, games you played for the first time this year that you thought were particularly good even though they didn't release this year. Also, can you rank the democracy week games you've played so far by level of enjoyment?

Dragmire

Hi Jon, Claire & Ted, Any chance of another stream of Shadow of doubt ? I love the game and seeing you playing it !

Ricco

HI John and Claire hope you are all well John what greek play would work well with the muppets as the cast and who would play who ?

GamerGeorgeXl

Claire! What do you do if your reading a series of books, but then one of them is really terrible. Do you force yourself to finish it, skip it, or give up on the series? For context I’m stuck on book 15 of the Horus Heresy series. It’s so incredibly dull đŸ˜«

Spooky_Basil

Spooky_Basil

If you ever want new end cards. I know what would be a brilliant one. Fallout 4 survival mode part 8 (the terrible truth) around 52:05 (rad scorpion and Preston Garvey imposter who saves you) So funny that scene.

Row white

Good day, Jon. Have you heard about Humble Games’ latest release - Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical? While I don’t know how well it will do for the channel, I think you and Claire may enjoy it. It’s a story-oriented, choose-your-own-adventure where your choices affect not just the plot but the songs as they’re being sung. The cast is just deadly, too. They went all out.

Nick

Hey Jon! I am just curious about why you feel sci-fi must be big where as fantasy can be smaller, where for me it is the otherway around, for me fantasy should be epic (With a few exceptions) where as sci-fi can absolutely play it small scale, so was just curious where that perception came from

Ryan Towers

Birthday was August 7th, requesting a Happy Birthday from Cockney Marnie. Also, shame you aren't able to commit a series to BG3, hopefully you enjoy what you do play on your own time! I'm personally having a blast.

Devin Albertson

Jon, any chance you can bring back the "mini series" format for when "Cities: Skylines 2" releases? Assuming the lineup for a full series is too crowded to fit it in but would be nice to see it get more than just one video

Canadas Bacon

Hi Jon! What is democracy week? I feel like I have known about this tangentially for a long time, but I have never known how to participate. I would appreciate a reminder! Also, I was hoping you could bring back chill airline pilot Jon to wish us all a happy summer vacation in the style of an in-flight announcement xx

Joe L

Jon will you be covering the new Super Mario RPG game? And a question for Claire has she heard of the Reckoners series by Brandon Sanderson?

Mojomonkey

What's currently yours and Claire's favourite thing about Ted? Also we have a lot of cats that just like to hang around our house but how do you know if they're strays or pets out for a wander? And I'm currently replaying Fallout 4 what would you say is an interesting challenge centred around settlement building?

SamTheSensualSapphist

Hello Jon, I humbly request a Baldur's Gate 3 stream campaign, pls

Purist

Hi Jon! You've spoken of your MS Excel skills in making dashboards to visualize data. Would most games not benefit from better data visualization as well? I'd love to track all kinds of info, especially in roguelikes. Comparing average time to kill across runs and different builds, yes please. How do you feel about this, are there any games that do this particularly well?

Sean

Jon, I’ve been watching the channel for 8 years and I’ve always known we are very close in age. I wonder exactly how close and which of us is slightly younger than the other. I was born January 87. Am I older than you?

Tom Boldero

Jon! What’s a moment in a video game you always look forward to either seeing or playing, no matter how many times you’ve played that game? As an example, mine is the moment the Prydwen/Brotherhood arrive in Fallout 4 after leaving Fort Hagen. Hope you’re all well! đŸ„ł

Chris

Hello there Jon, Claire, and Ted. My questions this month are these. Jon, How are you feeling about the state of the channel going into Autumn? Is there anything you wish you’d done differently over the course of the summer? Claire, how has your garden been this year? What plants/veggies did you grow this year for MATN HQ? I hope you both have an amazing end of summer and start of autumn.

Daniel Friel

Jon, on last month's Dave the Diver livestream you revealed your true colours by trying to eat that mermaids bottom half. So now we need to know are there any other mythical creatures bottom half's you want to eat? OR Fuck, Marry, Eat mythical edition - Centaur (horsey bum), Harpy (birdy bum), Minotaur (erm? bum bum).

Daffy

Jon. Did you ever have a Gameboy Advanced as a kid and if so, did you ever play the Golden Sun games? Kinda Final Fantasy meets Pokémon but with excellent world building. Not suggesting they'd be good for the channel or anything, just came to mind this morning.

Wimble

what is your opinion on fishing, do you prefer fly fishing over regular fishing? I like normal fishing more, flys are too hard for me to catch because they are so fast and small...

SourShake

Question for Claire this month, I just spent a few days in France, Paris specifically. I just wanted to know one thing.... do all French people drive like they want to kill everything around them? Edited to add: I'm currently in London, and keeping my eye out for an egg carton in a linen shirt walking Ted.

Alex

Hi Jon, Claire, Teddy I just recently finished the jedi survivor series. I had gotten "slight" spoilers before and heard that Kal turns to the darkside. i disagreed with this as an rpg fan, because it felt like it made the decision for the player. Finishing yr series I realized that its only a minor thing that Kal only has to use to darkside powers once to complete the final boss battle, but overall he remains a "good" guy. I slightly felt disappointed again, as now there was no option to go one way or the other.. How do you feel about jedi survivor's ending and its ability to give "choice" to the player? Thanks! sorry for the long message!

Skipp

Hiya Jon, Claire, and Ted! To what extent do you plan on playing New Vegas for Tale of Two Wastelands? Will that just be small things every now and then in comparison to 3, or will it have the same depth to it?

Eliza Kontiokari

Hi Jon. My pom just (mostly) recovered from her spay. She was very sleepy for the first few days but has mostly regained her gremlin energy. How much of a gremlin is Ted?

DuckHunter

Jon, what would be your strategy to do an V.A.T.S. (attack) ONLY run in Fallout 4 Survival?

Andris Grīnbergs

Hi Jon and Claire! Did you watch the HBO series of The Last of Us? If so, what did you think about it overall and compared to the game? I was also going to request Jon to play the Resident Evil Muppet game My Friendly Neighborhood but he beat me to it. Please continue it if you haven’t already by the time you read this. It’s not a long game but it’s hilarious and a loving parody of the RE franchise.

Tony

Hey Jon, I just started rewatching your Fallout 4 YOLO run, and in episode two you went to abernathy farm to get razergrain for noodle cups. But I remember the gag at the end of the game where you acknowledge that you didn't use noodle cups. At what point did you decide not to use noodle cups and was there a deeper reason besides "it was an obvious and boring choice that wasn't interesting"?

Xelikai

In your opinion, what Mass Effect character do you think would thrive the most in the Fallout universe?

Talon Lardner

Jon well you ever do a other Rome total war series

ShugM25

I’ve been waiting for this! Okay so Jon, got back from Scotland last month, thanks for the charcoals shoutout, Eleanor basically cried when I played the podcast for her haha! Anyway, I’ve got a question! I’d like to ask you if there’s a chance of you playing Sid Meier’s Civilisation Revolution for the Xbox 360 on the channel? I ask because you said in last month’s that you have only played 5 and 6 and Revolution is probably my favourite one. It’s very cool and very stylised too. It’d also be a pseudo-why-not-wednesday video, which were always my favourites! I think you’d love CivRev though. Anyway, loads of love from myself and Eleanor to you, Claire and Teddy from myself, Eleanor and our pet cat Smonkey (her name’s Smokey but she’s a little idiot) Hope you enjoyed France!

George “Good Luck Mattophobia” Spence

Hi Jon! It was my birthday on August 9th, could I get a happy birthday song from Evil Jon? (Also - really hoping that this patreoncast won't make it until September so that the naming protocol remains a mess :p)

Steve Alberts

Have you considered any names for your ship in Starfield? The Argos perhaps?

Stephen M McKellep

Good day, Jon! You've mentioned the prospect of a return to Stellaris and another Impossible run. Do you have any vague thoughts on what sort of empire build you'd try to survive with, or what sort of strategies you'd try to pull off? (Also, please consider the following to increase the impossibility further - give your starting species the jellyfish or Venus flytrap models, so you constantly have to overcome your urge to let the game kill them off.)

Carabas

Hi Jon, hope all is going well! I remember you mentioning (I think last patroncast) that you didn't like fnv yolo as it was a bit messy. Do you think you'd ever re-do the fnv yolo run, and if so would you add another challenge on top to keep it fresh? Also, recommendation to both you and Claire for the book Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir - probably one of my favourite depictions of alien life, and very well written (it's by the same guy that wrote the Martian if you've read/watched that)

Alice Roberts

Hello Jon, Claire, Ted, and Tabby! (may god rest her beautiful perfect soul) I was wondering what project, creative endeavor, work, etc youtube or not are you the most proud of? & what one challenged you the most? I love all the hard work you put in and your enthusiasm is very infectious. Keep on doing what you do!

Rudy_Red_Top

This, sweet mother of god THIS!

Rudy_Red_Top

Jon! So at what point will you get a cat or have you determined that Teddy is more of a solo kind of pet?

Miyaa

What do you think of Victoria Coren Mitchell's current running gag of murder mystery novel chapters on Only Connect (he says, knowing the answer). I've always enjoyed her humour personally.

Angus Noble

Hi Jon! Hope the MATN crew is doing well. I recently picked up and finished Project Wingman, an Ace-Combat-like very arcadey flight game with a super fun story, one of the most fun missions I've ever played in a game, and you can play it in VR if you want to throw out your neck tracking bogeys haha. It got me thinking though, it's been years since the last VR game was shown on the channel, and there's another flight game built from the ground-up for VR called VTOL VR. It's not a complete flight simulator but it simulates a lot and is really fun, and I think it could be a really entertaining video in the same vein as the Hotdogs, Horseshoes, & Hand Grenades video (let's all watch Jon try and learn how to fly a fighter jet.) I hope you can show the game off someday, thanks for reading and for being amazing as ever!

Waterplant

Jon, , Claire, Ted, future M.A.T.kitty, I hope all of you are well. My question: Since Starfield doesn't look to have a VATS, that being Fallout's thing, would you like for there to be some sort of way to play more slow paced and tactically, or are you good with the more Elder Scrolls-ish direct combat? (I practically LIVED in VATS) Edit: it was also my birthday on the 1st of August, May I please have a birthday song in a " happy German" voice? Edit edit: and Happy Birthday to you, you share a birthday with my Dad!

Travis Reis

Getting this comment in on a technicality but I bought Xcom2 cuz I’ve been enjoying the series so much. I’m playing on Rookie and I’m getting my teams SLAUGHTERED. I really thought after watching you so much and being on Rookie it’d be a chill time. So my comments to you and your Xcom badasses making it look so easy 😅 I’ve learned my lessons tho and Xcom2 has its hooks in me to keep playing.

Trevor Jones

It is indeed cold and miserable here in my country town in the southern hemisphere and I demand you do something about it... Idk what lol. I miss summer

Keagan Wyatt

You said you're not sure if Baldur's Gate 3 is right for YouTube. Have you considered doing something with other players? You can play with up to 4 people, so it would be hilarious to see you, Dan, Matt and MattIsNotJump or Claire get into all kinds of trouble

Thomas Bunink

Hi Jon! I had a couple of questions about upcoming Bethesda-ing on the channel. One, I was wondering if you've considered possibly doing Starfield three days a week, giving it the Fallout Sunday slot? Obviously not until TTW finishes up, but it just feels like since Starfield is shaping up to be Fallout in space, it wouldn't be too out of place. Two, speaking of TTW, around this time next year marks ten years since the first episode of New Vegas YOLO. Any chance of an attempt of a TTW YOLO next year in celebration? Feels like a good way to "remaster" the original YOLO's, while also adding a new level of challenge in attempting to do both games back to back. Whatever you have coming up, I will be looking forward to it! Thanks to you and Claire for the hours of entertainment!

Jordan Lissade

Jon, we've all heard of games being as wide as an ocean and deep as a puddle. Are there any games you feel are oceanic in both breadth and depth? Any that you would consider as wide as a puddle but deep as an ocean?

Anna D

Hey Jon! Got a FMK dog edition (Dogsit, adopt, abandon) question for you! Ted as a cyberdog from FNV, Ted as a nightstalker from FNV, and Ted as a mutant hound from FO4

Christina (shrugs)

Since Claire has been vocal about the ADHD diagnosis being a massive help for her, have you ever considered getting tested for any neuro divergence? Speaking as someone with autism (and therefore intending absolutely zero offense in saying this) I have noticed a few traits in you over the years that make me think you may be divergent in some way. Do you think it might help you if you did get diagnosed? Again, no offense intended. The traits of neuro divergence I notice in you have mainly to do with intelligence, creativity and passion

Thomas Bunink

Just promise us all you've no plans to melt into a small puddle of protoplasm in the heat of your back garden, and we'll be fine from there.

Jazzlovr

Hi Jon. Been following you for.. probably a decade at this point. I just wanted to thank you for one random thing..for years I've heard you and Claire shout out "trans rights" during your streams and never thought much of it. But even shout-outs like that, they add up, with time, they contribute to building a sense of normality and safety. After all this time, I finally realized I'm trans as well, and I wanted to say thank you because that random shout-out you do during streams sometimes, it definitely helped me build up the confidence to finally understand myself. I don't know if people find it annoying or whatever during the live, maybe they do, it was certainly distracting for me, but I guess in a good way. So yeah, just saying thank you. And to all other people doing the same, obviously. Also you can use Gatekeeper corpses to build top tier psi amps without the need for sectoids. Just a random heads-up.

Skye

For you and Claire If you could turn into any animal at will- what animal would you choose?

Row white

How’s you? How’s Claire? How’s Ted? Are you on the side of synths have rights? Which ever side you fall on about synths - do you think the Railroad could help more than just synths but are blinded just the synth side of things? Do you think you will be doing as much of Starfield as possible during your first play though or do you think it will be more of the main plot? What’s your favourite soft drink?

Row white

Jon! Can you give us an update on your Elden Ring characters? What builds have you been playing with, and which have you found the most fun?

Keevo

Been enjoying the classic Total War series again. Will Medieval II Kingdoms ever make an appearance? - MajorWesJanson

Starfield YOLO when?

Have you ever had any jobs that you truly hated? Why? All my hated jobs are due to bad managers.
