That's an interesting perspective on Garp as a parent. I love him, he is one of my favourite characters but for a while after MF I didn't know what to make of him. I got to a very similar conclusion to yours after a while but I struggled to give him the benefit of the doubt initially. I was sooooo mad at him for Ace's death.

the may part is not good its not ay or ey its just e or eh. like man without the N. so hee-meh... idk how to write so they can understand it, but i better teach them nothing than wrong. i havent watched their video yet so i have no clue how they pronounced it so far, its very hard for me to imagine them not knowing how to pronounce it or them not being able to catch how the actors pronounce it by simply listening and repeating. but in the past too many people gave them wrong pronounciation makin it worse, hardly acceptable. i blame american english language

Rayleigh and his wife? This is the comment about Garp I wanted to make during the war. But I thought it may be dangerous before this point, as it is insanely long there is no need to read it aloud. It may be a weird opinion, but I think Garp has been one of the most responsible parent type characters in One Piece. In our world the training Garp put Luffy through would be abuse, but in the context of the One Piece world it is different. Garp has seen how dangerous the world is and the evilest people that live in it. Garp has spent his life trying to make the world a better and safer place. Even if it meant working with people he hates, the celestial dragons. [You know this due to him being proud of Luffy whenever Garp talks about Luffy beating up the dragons] Garp has been a protector of the common man for decades regardless of the evil that he knows resides in the world government and the navy. Garp wants his children to be strong enough to survive in this harsh and dangerous world they live in. Garp also wants Luffy and Ace to help him to protect more people in this world. Most of what I want to say I can't. But the reason Garp's choice made him one of my favorite characters is that Garp is 'THE good man' in the navy. Garp is the inspiration for what the navy should aim to be for the next generations of navy officers like Colby. Garp has been able to live a good and just life [from what you have seen] ignoring the evil that lurks in the organization, to protect as many people as he can. Not many people could have the character and patience's to make a deal with the devil to protect others. Garp sacrificed most of his freedom to protect others something Luffy could not do [Luffy can die for others, but he can't live without freedom for others]. Garp is a living example for what the future of the navy should look like and if he saved Ace or Luffy the future of the navy would be lost to the Celestial Dragons. Garp has prepared his boys for the hardship of the world and his words 'this is the life you chose so if you want to save Ace you must beat me' is an important lesson for Luffy to learn. Luffy made the choice to become Garp's enemy from the beginning, but Luffy was too naive to understand what that could mean. Garp wants to make a better navy for the future and has sacrificed his life for that goal. Garp has taught Luffy hardship so that he will never lose hope in the face the biggest authority putting him through hardship. Garp was brave enough to put his grandchildren through hard training to live however they would choose. Even if it meant they would hate Garp for the rest of their lives. Garp was prepared to be hated so that his grandchildren could live freely regardless of hardships.
