That’s the thing, what you consider “problematic” I consider to be the part of anime’s lifeblood. You want it excised while I want it to remain true to the artistic vision of what the artist wants. This discussion is pointless, we’re not going to change each other’s minds. I’ll go back to lurking.

We are talking about morality around oversexualization (fictional character or not is just a nuance to the same problem) which is one of the reasons why women (West or East) are scared to go out wearing certain clothes or walk alone after a certain time at night. Years of hypersexualization brought us to where we are today and in anime, where most of the time the objects of desire are young underage lolita girls, I find it especially morally wrong. I never liked Oda's portrayal of women but I tolerate it to an extent, just like I do with Sanji's perv behaviour because at its base the women shown by Oda are strong willed women that do not lend themselves to be objects of desire. In the same way that Sanji is a kind man and he would never hurt a woman. But as a woman myself I don't agree with it. And yes, anime overtly sexualizing its female characters has had some serious consequences. One example being its direct contribution to the fetishization and exoticization of Asian women thus leading to the increase of harmful stereotypes that Asian women are submissive and often infantilized. By disregarding the problem in the anime industry and boxing that into the "it's just art" point of view, you are preventing it from receiving critiques that could help push the genre to abandon its problematic tropes, much like we must continue to do in all media. Also, comparing it to metal music and satanism it's very naive at best as that was mainly due to the ignorant view of a group of bigots, as in reality there is absolutely no link between the two. The same cannot be said about hypersexualising women in the media and the miriad of pervs and paedophiles swarming the web.

I understand your perspective but I wholeheartedly disagree that there is any significant cultural impact form fanservice or “spicy” content that makes anyone misogynistic or a pervert in that sense of the word. It would be intellectually dishonest to make those claims and still be a fan of Oda’s work.
Anime as an art form often embraces things most people overseas are uncomfortable with, I wish people would look past it instead of claiming it needs to change for the sake of the feelings of those who are in the west. If I’m perpetuating a “misogynistic narrative” then what is Oda for his female character designs?
Blaming the art has never been a good argument. It didn’t work when 90’s parents blamed violent video games for school tragedies, or when Christians blamed metal music for satanism.

We are starting to put more pieces of the puzzle together. Luffy's hat was in fact originally Roger's hat, which was somehow passed down to Shanks. That is mind-blowing because Shanks giving his hat to Luffy now assumes an even greater meaning. Obviously Rayleigh HAD to meet Luffy after seeing him wearing his captain's hat. And Kuma being confirmed a friend and not a foe is another big drop in these episodes. Sure, we knew he had acted like he did to help the SH but we can now draw a direct line between him and Luffy, through Dragon! Brilliant writing!

Kenji is talking about social repercussions of certain choices. Freedom is freedom but being aware that you are perpetrating a misogynistic narrative is another. Try to look beyond your nose.

Well on the other side of the argument, is that its just art. That people have a freedom of expression and can draw what they want to draw, and not be censored just because it makes certain people act out. Not saying that your wrong, but for me people that are influenced by Fiction to act out, already had something wrong with them, and are just using something else as an excuse to do what they want to do. Like as an example we have Nami in basically a bra, but that doesn't necessarily mean that every single young girl is going to be walking around in a Bra now just because She is popular character. Those that do probably wanted to do so anyway, and most people have other people in their lives that will tell them not to.

It’s crazy how One Piece just casually drops after 500 episodes that Luffy’s hat was originally Roger’s. Also, it’s crazy in the short flashback how much young Roger looks like Luffy even though he’s Ace’s dad. Maybe it’s just a D thing?

At the same time it really hard to tell, what they do is they will add extra scene's in that just seem natural, for example in these episode's they added extra parts of Usopp being scared of the Kraken.

To answer your question Heather this arc (fishman island) has 58 episodes and the next arc has 54. They are shorter arcs compared to other arcs in one piece but they just tend to drag a little at some points. No doubt you will still love it though. Also you have to use “The little mermaid- under the sea” as an intro or outro to one of the videos in this arc since we are quite literally under the sea 🌊!

🤦♂️ your perspective on this matter oversimplifies the ethical implications. Claiming there’s nothing morally wrong with oversexualizing fictional or cartoon characters shows a lack of consideration for the broader societal impacts. Fiction influences real-world perceptions and behaviors, and normalizing such practices risks promoting objectification and unhealthy standards. It’s disappointing to see such a dismissive stance on something that can contribute to larger cultural issues.

"All things happen for a reason." This isn’t just the fate Rayleigh was talking about; it’s also a message from Oda himself woven into the story. From the jokes and gags the Straw Hats throw around to the background details Oda sneaks into manga panels, every little thing has its place. Fans often analyze these moments with scrutiny that it’s almost scary and awe-inspiring.
I do feel a bit sorry for Sanji’s nosebleed gag, especially when it sometimes undermines his cool, badass image. But even though it’s a little ridiculous, it’s still funny and silly. As a Sanji fan, I can proudly say that only Sanji can pull off such a wide range of traits: badass, cool, suave, silly, hilarious, kind, and burdened. I’d also say Luffy shares a similar trait—he’s a badass goofball—but their personalities differ. Luffy handles emotions in a carefree way, while Zoro is straight-up a badass. I can’t imagine Oda giving him a lame joke like that (can you picture Zoro with a nosebleed?). "All things happen for a reason."
Each of the Straw Hats has their own unique personality, but they all share kind hearts. Their interactions spark differently and create endless comedic moments that are always fun to watch. Gosh, I really miss seeing them all together, sharing their time and adventures.

u probably dont remember but i do recommend to rewatch two scenes: during sabaody in the auction rayleigh told luffy he has been wanting to meet luffy and that the strawhat really fits him! + later rayleigh explains luffy that he met shanks and that shanks told him that luffy said the exact same words as roger did!!! 🤯 so roger giving his strawhat to shanks and then shanks doing the same with luffy means a lot! thats why rayleigh HAD to meet luffy! (i was replying to starlightkid but that person deleted its post: sayin there is nothing morally wrong about oversexualizing fictional characters)

The Fishman Island arc was one of the most anticipated arcs by One Piece fans. We first heard about Fishman Island at the end of the Water 7 arc and knew the Straw Hats were planning to head there. After that, we went through the Thriller Bark, Sabaody, Amazon Lily, Impel Down, and Marineford arcs, before finally returning to Sabaody. In total, we went through six arcs, including smaller ones like Sabaody. Even if we only count the major arcs, that’s still three big ones. From the start of Thriller Bark in Episode 337, it took 186 episodes before we finally reached Fishman Island.
Given how long we’d been anticipating, fans had high expectations, which led to a range of opinions once the arc concluded. While there may have been a few issues here and there, don’t worry—there are still many beautiful moments and important messages in this arc that shouldn’t be overlooked. Like with any arc that sparks different opinions such as Skypiea, the best way to form your own view is to watch it with your own eyes and see what you think at the end.

Dragon Ball must to be watch from the beginning, not Dragon Ball Z, but Dragon Ball.
Dragon Ball Z is the part 2 of Dragon Ball, so directly beginning in part 2 can be confusing.
A lot more comedy that Oda was inspired was in Dragon Ball 1986 (Goku was a kid).

i can’t imagine how rayleigh is feeling seeing the hat of his beloved captain on another person hat that will carry roger’s will. a captain that he literally dedicated his loyalty to for years.
imagining one of the strawhats still lingering alone and staying behind in the world meeting another person with that hat, while the crew are scattered/hunted and luffy had died/executed, is just painful.
it always amaze me how oda can just make us feels the depth of love in its various forms through just such a short clip of rayleigh reminiscing about meeting roger.
