I know I'm late, but there were payment issues. Anyways this episode is the first 1 to make me turn on Light, and it broke my heart all over again watching this episode. This slightly reminded me of ace, all she had to do was keep walking and ignored everything he was saying, and she could still be alive.

I’m back!! Sorry for the long break — I was away on a family holiday and didn’t get a chance to watch any reactions. But I’m finally back and ready to catch up — can’t believe how much I missed! I’m totally with H on this — the music in this anime is phenomenal! It really drags you down the rabbit hole alongside Light (and it's heavily inspired by the greatest Italian horror master of our times, Dario Argento and his movies such as Profondo Rosso and Suspiria, for which the music was composed by Goblin). The tone is so dark and gripping, and the dynamic between Light and L is absolutely electric. I love how the show flips the script by making the main character a villain. Most anime fans are used to rooting for the classic good guy, but Death Note turns that trope on its head in the best way. Watching Light spiral deeper into madness just reminds you — in this anime, nothing is predictable.

Not sure if your subs allow it but if you choose English CC instead of just English, usually the subs match what they say.

I think that's green tea ice cream or melon but I am leaning towards green tea because melon is usually lime green.

YT shorts: (50:40) What a moment, how you both answer the question “tells me what time you’re gonna die” & then Light says “because I’m Kira”.

One thing I love about death note is that we are following a villain instead of a hero. The good guy not being the main character is such a twist on the usual method. Also in regards to watching a show in its original language Dandy actually aired in English before Japanese wich was unheard of at the time. I'm glad you guys are getting into one the most foundational anime out there.

I agree with Potzi, I don’t think the English dub is bad at all. But for example, I personally find Light’s Japanese voice actor much better. His voice has these eerie, sweet tone shifts when he speaks, and it’s really well done. Also, like you guys mentioned, the subtitles don’t always match what’s being said, and sometimes the subbed lines are written in a way that feels more impactful. I think it would be great if you watched the series occasionally switching between the dub and sub, just to experience how different the delivery and tone can be. It really hits differently, in a good way :)

It’s interesting that Heather said L is spooky-looking. Light is a villain whose appearance resembles a stereotypically handsome hero, while L is our actual hero-detective with a kinda villainous appearance. Also, the name: Light Yagami = “moon” & “night god”. What a perfectly villainous name!

I'm glad you guys are watching this masterpiece of an anime. It came out some 20 years ago, but it's still relevant in today's world. I'm with Jason, no one should like Light at this point, he has been corrupted by power and arrogance, and I also agree with Heather that the music is a great part of the experience! It makes me want to forget the story just so that I could enjoy unraveliing it again. :) PS. I wouldn't mind if you switch to Japanese every other episode so you can enjoy both versions.
