In those last moments, I’m glad Soichiro couldn’t hear Light’s thoughts. He was a good-hearted man to the end & doesn’t deserve to know the insidious nature of his son. That would be too heartbreaking for his character, especially after “confirming” for himself Light’s “innocence”. It’s also sad to consider that he might’ve not lived long regardless, because obtaining shinigami eyes takes half your lifespan, & Soichiro didn’t die via the Death Note but the injuries sustained from the blast.
