THE LEGEND OF KORRA 4X02 EXTENDED REACTION

EXTENDED REACTION PART, FOUR EPISODES OF ADVANCE, NO ADDS

LINK : https://e.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZWI8JZ06skv6hhuLQADQfBt8pUPuPjtAqk

Hello !

"A mess" is not even enough to define how I was at the end of this episode. Not only because I was moved by the return of Toph and her sassy words, but even more by her calling Korra "twinkle toes". Like she thought she was talking to Aang, because Korra is the Avatar. SHE LOST THE CONNEXION WITH THE PAST LIVES OK, HE'S NOT THERE ANYMORE, YOU'RE NOT TALKING TO YOUR FRIEND BUT TO A STRANGER. It broke me into a million pieces.

This episode only about Korra was really sad, she is not only injured physically but also in her mind. At this point, I thought it was more about her losing confidence on herself, after being so close to death at the end of season 2, with other people being the ones saving her and everyone. And I knew the Avatar State was out, and the symbolic of the chains, the metallic thing ? Maybe poison still inside.

I'm still french, so I'm still sorry if my english hurts you.

THE LEGEND OF KORRA 4X02 EXTENDED REACTION

Honestly, the loss of past lives is a good trade for the return of the airbenders. The end of season 2 represents a cosmic reset. Korra is the new Wan (who also obviously does not have past lives).

Hello ! Yes, Korra has grown and evolved a lot, and it's so good to see. As for the "past lives" : I still think that the words are important, that they used "lost the connexion" on purpose. For your way of seeing things, but also mine, to let it open. They didn't want to make angry fans of ATLA and to make them think that at some point it can come back ; but they also wanted to make clear that Korra was the Avatar now, and that it was time to say goodbye to the old ones, like Aang (and yes, it was clearly an official second death), to avoid comparisons. Korra is still the reincarnation of Aang and all of the others ones, but I think they wanted to amplify the fact that she incarnes now the Avatar, her and only her, and even more because they knew they would bring back old friends. I never thought Korra should be like Aang, on the contrary I wanted her to be different, to really appreciate her for what she is, and that's the case 😊And for my theories about the past lives coming back or not, I reached the point of "not for your Korra, but maybe with the next Avatar, like when you restart your computer from zero" πŸ˜‚πŸ™ˆ

It also makes me think of: - End of The Avatar and the Firelord - Toph: Do you really think friendships can last more than one lifetime? Aang: I don't see why not. ... ... Sokka: Well scientifically speaking, there's no way to prove... Katara: Oh, Sokka, just hold hands! *Holds Hands*

@Intro-Laura, Don't worry, Toph isn't dead! πŸ˜› Korra's growth over all four seasons is IMO one of my favorite parts of both shows, and its culmination especially over this and the next two episodes is just amazing. I hope your frustration with the lost connection to the past lives didn't damper it too much for you. Your reaction to Toph's comment gave me a lot better insight into why you've had such a negative reaction to the lost connection with the past Avatar lives. I'd like to give you my perspective, and to clarify I'm not saying that one interpretation is better or "more correct" than the other, but maybe it can help make you feel a little better about it. Korra is an incarnation of the Avatar. Just like Aang was and Roku and Kyoshi et al. to Wan. Korra IS Aang (as well as all the others). Losing the "connection" to the past lives doesn't change that. Aang IS there, as Korra. I know you wouldn't have known it at the time (and that you do now because you've watched at least a few episodes ahead), but Toph knows what's going on in the world - she knows what's happened to Korra, and she still called her Twinkle-Toes, because Korra's still the Avatar - she's still the reincarnation of Toph's old friend. IMO, if that were not the case, it would seem extremely weird/disturbing to me if all of Aang's old friends and family saw Korra as merely a conduit to Aang. His kids certainly don't - every time they've tried to communicate with their father (Bumi with the statue, Tenzin in the spirit fog) its been completely without Korra. I think a lot of people see the lost connection as sort of the second death of Aang (and the others)... and a more "permanent" one at that. I see it much more like lost memories. It still sucks to lose them, and it may make it feel like you've lost part of yourself if you lose memories, but you're still you, and Korra is still the Avatar. She may have a different personality, and look and act differently at times, but she's still the same person as all the others, even if she's able to remember it or not. Since we're on subject, I don't think I ever really gave my opinion on the decision to cut ties with the past lives before (in part because of how divisive it is). By this point in watching the series (as well as currently) I was/am fairly neutral on it - if the connection gets restored, I'd be fine with it, but I'd also be fine if it never gets restored. When I was first watching, I just assumed that it would get restored at some point (most likely the next season) as I think you (and most people) also thought, but by this point I had sort of accepted it, maybe because I didn't see it as a "second death". I think the loss DID add a lot to Korra's character development in both Season 3 and now Season 4, and that's a large part of the reason why I don't hate the decision. And if you really think about, in the end, even Aang didn't use it THAT much in AtLA. In the finale, when he asked all his most recent past lives for advice, he ended up completely ignoring it anyway. One thing that I've really liked about Korra, in hindsight after having finished it, is that even though they make many callbacks to the old show, especially with the appearance of characters, but they've always been more background/support and not integral to the story (just like how in AtLA, the "masters", though important for helping the main characters, aren't really that integral to the story themselves - except Iroh, of course). I don't think I fully realized this until E10 of this season (no spoilers) when someone says (no spoilers in case you're not there yet) "At some point, you've gotta...". I really respect TLoK for not relying on its old characters, which is the other main reason that I don't hate that the connection is lost. I'll just finish in saying, I wish people wouldn't tell you what DOESN'T happen in the rest of the show. I think maybe they just don't realize that in itself is spoilery, but IMO it spoils just as much as telling you what DOES happen, especially for someone like you who likes to theorize a lot. I think the Patreon comments have been fairly good about it, and hopefully you've been far enough ahead of the YT comments that it hasn't taken away too much!
