Hello !

The writers are clever : they are using these bonus episodes to make breaks in the narrative arc of the show and take that time to talk about the characters. Here, it was even more clever : choosing Daryl and Carol is a good way to prepare the viewers for the spin-off, to tell us where these characters and their relationship is standing now (and they evolved so much with seasons that it's interesting to take that time). And also to create a parallel between Daryl/Carol relationship and Daryl/Leah relationship.

You know that I was not shipping the first one, and I have the impression that this episode proved me right. They are taking care of each other, their bond is strong, made with what they lived together, and resists time apart from each other or big issues. Like brother and sister. On the contrary, when Daryl met Leah, there was directly an attraction between them and their bond was intense, made with what they are and how they are when they are together. That's why Daryl knew he could "find peace" by staying with Leah and went back to her at the end. Oh, and she's not dead. Does it mean that we can have an happy end here ? No, come on, it's The Walking Dead.
