DRAWING WEEK 25 - AVATAR : THE LAST AIRBENDER

New drawing about Avatar, and after Iroh and Zukko, I wanted to put Katara. Because I'm feeling a little sad. I learnt how to love her character along my bingewatching, finding more and more interesting because of how maternal she can be sometimes, but also how she supports people, she can push them to do their best. The more we progressed and the more she showed that she was the natural leader of the group. Not Aang who is the Avatar, not Sokka who is the older one, but really her. Because she knows the forces and weaknesses of everyone, she's there for everyone.
And that's how I'm feeling about her character. That's why it made me a little sad when I began to post my videos about season 2 on youtube and I saw some comments being like "Azula is a queen, just showing how lame Katara is" or other stuff like that. First because it's wrong to compare women like that, it's something made a lot for female character but not male ones (I didn't have any comments like that for Aang/Zukko for example, or Sokka). Second because it's denying all of the time that, without Katara, no one would have survived and, to begin with, no one would have gone with Aang on this journey.

Hello and thank you 😊 Azula is a great character and yes, she has her reasons to be like that, but the fact that she doesn't regret anything, it's showing that she doesn't want to change, it's not even a question for her now.

2021-06-21 06:49:46 +0000 UTCI agree. Comparing anyone like that is awful and demeaning. Katara shows how a woman can be powerful, strong, and caring. She can get riled up when she sees something as unfair, but she will accept when she was out of place with her actions, like in The Chase. While Toph wasn't doing much, she didn't know any better. Katara tried to teach Toph, but didn't know how. Just like everyone, she has flaws, but does her best to be aware of them to make herself a better person in the long run. Azula on the other hand has been manipulated by her father from day 1. He saw potential for her, and used it for his own gain. Her father's manipulation hurt Zuko, which is why Ursa spent more time with him to comfort and teach Zuko lessons, but... Ursa ended up neglecting the love Azula needed. Azula interpreted it as that she's just born a monster so she should just give into it. She's good at it, and is finding a lot of success. She's fueled by twisted pride and the idea she's better than others because her father instilled that into her. To be honest, part of me wishes we could see her turning herself around, but that isn't the point of her character. It's a show of how bad of a person Ozai was. She may be crazy, but no one is born crazy. Also, I love the drawing! Katara looks like she knows how cool she is, and I love it!

I do feel sorry for both characters as well (for very different reasons)... on a slightly different note, I wish you well and can't wait for happy tears. I don't like that you're sad.. but I understand why you would be :( best wishes and much love.
