THE LEGEND OF KORRA 1X05 EXTENDED REACTION

EXTENDED REACTION PART, TWO WEEKS SOONER, NO ADDS

LINK : https://e.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZyOiVZsmhMwViNyr7VTtirHqRlkS3dKeLk

Hello !

I think that I was supposed to love this episode, because I really began to ship Mako and Korra together. But I'm totally against the idea of a triangle between the brothers and her : because this brother relationship is already pleasing me so much, it can be a deep one ; because Bolin is the sweetest guy and doesn't deserve that ; because Mako's girlfriend is also involved, really nice and she doesn't deserve that.

I hated it in fact, it felt like the two of them being dishonest and not respecting Bolin's feelings. And in this scene, they confessed their feelings like that, it's a big no for me, they're screaming, they're saying bad stuff, Bolin saw that and cried… NOOO. I was mad before the episode and it didn't help at all to improve my mood.

I'm still french, so I'm still sorry if my english hurts you.

THE LEGEND OF KORRA 1X05 EXTENDED REACTION

Comments

I see a lot of dislike for korra, but honestly I think it does a lot of things better than the original avatar. This episode caused a lot of complaints, but it makes perfect sense if you consider the age of the characters and Korra's sheltered past. Not only was she spoiled, but never learned to properly socialize or deal with other people's feelings which is very important for an avatar. This show is very much about korra learning to be a person along with an avatar.

Hello ! We don't have Korra on Netflix in France so I had to find the episodes somewhere else and use free subtitles yes. I saw these comments too, but I can't remember for which season it was. I finished to watch season 1 today (I'm EXHAUSTED πŸ™ˆ) and I had no spoilers on comments...

I saw on the first episode's YT comments that there were several mentions of "subtitle spoilers" for LoK. From seeing other reactors, I wasn't surprised. A few weeks ago I went through and checked whether or not it was actually the case, and at least for US Netflix subs and for the Korra episodes I downloaded from a slightly less legal place, those subtitles did not have the spoilers they were referring to. I know it can be useful to have subs on, especially for non-native speakers, and I know you were using some from opensubtitles, so if you wanted, you could tell us which set of subtitles you use and we could double check for you if they have the "spoilers" or not.

Hello ! I felt the same for Bolin but like I said in another comment, it's also the episode that made me love him for good and above all of the other characters (with Pabu πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚). I had hope that him being mistreated like that wouldn't happen again but with what you say...

Ugh, this episode 😭. This is when it really hit me that the head writer for the last show left. The way that the comic relief characters are handled (Bolin and Sokka) is very very different here. I felt that Bolin was largely treated as a joke here and disrespected. Unfortunately, this is not the last time that something like this would happen. Okay, okay. That was my rant for the day. I just really like Bolin and he deserved better than to be the butt of every joke πŸ˜”. Other than that messy situation, this episode is fine.

No. I respect you guys and myself too much to make us suffer that πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚

Hello ! No worries, I liked this episode also, but the love triangle made me mad, a lot because I had the impression that they were not respecting Bolin's feelings. Good point of these scenes I didn't like : with that episode, I knew that Bolin was clearly the character I love the most 😊

Laura Reactions

I quite like this episode despite it's issues. The avatar series tackles a lot of heavy and difficult to process themes and presents them in a way for viewers to reflect and learn from. So the way they handled this was alright in my opinion. With Mako and Bolin being so close in age its not unlikely for them to both fall for the same girl. I also imagine none of the them(Korra, Mako, and Bolin) had much experience with relationships prior to all this. The love triangle could've been left out but it makes sense if you think about it. I'd rather them take just one episode to address the Mako-Bolin-Korra triangle and put an end to it rather than drape it out across the entire series and have Bolin constantly pursue Korra while she pursues Mako. I will say I don't love how they use Bolin as an emotional punching bag in this episode. But I think it only works due to how loving and sturdy he is. He falls hard but is still able to recover and pick himself back up. Finally, I think the biggest reason I appreciate this episode is that it shows how complex, varied, and resilient relationships can be, in both good and bad terms. And not just romantic relationships, but also friendships and family relationships. Every relationship is unique and no relationship you have will ever be the same as a one that someone else has.

Hating this episode is completely natural. I think most people do.

It really was great timing though how you said you didn't want love triangles at the end of your previous video. The moment I heard that, I knew that the next video would be... eventful. :D

Hello ! I don't know what happened to your comment neither, I had the notification on my phone and the mail with the comment (like each time, for all of you guys) but when I clicked to respond, it was not here. I understand that they created that moment to maybe go with the audience but I think that it's also going with the characters, who are teenagers and can do stupid stuff like that. But like you said, I think that the audience who was there since ATLA didn't want these things created to please new viewers and maybe we're disappointed that the writers did it. I'll see how my opinion about the two of them is gonna evolve (I watched other episodes and without spoiling it, I'm now into a mood like "I ship you guys, but I don't agree and approve your attitude" πŸ™ˆ). Count on me for always being honest : when I love a show, I know also to tell things I don't like, I'm not a blind fan.

Laura Reactions

Weird. My comment disappeared. I was saying that this was the episode where I started disliking both Korra and Mako. They both handled the situations fantastically wrong. When this first came out, a lot of the people who watched ATLA were now teenagers. So I reasoned that the inclusion of love triangles was to make the main characters relatable to teenagers whose love lives are likely to be as messy. I get that. I can even respect it. But narratively, love triangles are terrible conflicts for stories. When I watched this for the first time, I kept thinking that this was not what I wanted out of avatar. I'm glad to see that I was right to trust in your honesty. Despite my dislike for LOK, I'm mostly continuing to watch your reactions to see if you end up agreeing with the things I disliked about the show. And so far I'm not disappointed. I hope to continue seeing this honesty moving forward.
