Hello !
I understand so much now why this movie is so cult : I think that people who watched it when it was out, discovered with it that kind of movies, false documentaries, so without any obvious cut/editing, music and all, and they had such a good one to begin with. Actors are playing at the good tone all along the movie, being regular guys at the beginning and going paranoiac/crazy at the end, it's a "closed space" movie also in a way, and they are mixing so many different things !
At first, it confused me a little : horror movies are presenting a mood/context, and the film maker knows what tools he can use to play with viewers' fears according to that "horror box". Here, I had the impression that they took all of the horror boxes, they used all of the tools into each of them, for finally at the end, assuming totally to not give the answer to the viewers. Crazy human, kids ghosts, evil witch, collective hallucination… So many theories can be ok. And in fact, they warned the viewers since the beginning : people living here told you a lot of different stories, with a lot of different answers, you can just choose the one who is going with what you believe into.
