2024-03-17 17:38:38 +0000 UTCIt's not that the German planes were "better" but, rather, those were fighters (fast and maneuverable) vs bombers (slower and less maneuverable). It was difficult to have friendly fighter planes escort the bombers, I believe, because the fighter planes could not fly as far as the bombers. German fighters weren't having to fly that far since our bombers were flying over German held territories and Germany itself.

It has a very different feel than Band of Brothers or The Pacific, (because airplanesπ¬), but really good and pretty rough to watch in its own right. While my older (and passed on) relatives were all ground pounders, I did have the opportunity to go up in a B-17 when the Collings Foundation, a βflying museumβ came to town. Actually being inside one of those old birds really brings home what was really going on in there with the crews.
