[BOYS PLANET] EPISODE 3 FULL

[BOYS PLANET] EPISODE 3 FULL

I think I read somewhere that group Gs "22 in your area" was in reference to their number of stars. Savage.

Alice

Im pretty sure Keite revealed that he came up with Matthews catch phrase, ya know since it was his team.

Alice

mnet definitely evil edits a lot of certain trainees!

hannahkinskywalker

Minhyun (the host) was in Nuest (Seventeen's Sunbae group) of which 4/5 members participated in Produce 101 and he made it into the final lineup (there is a belief that at least one if not more other nuest members were manipulated out of the final lineup.) But to be fair Produce 101 saved the group and the individual member careers and has enabled them to stay relevant to this day. Minhyun is now focusing on acting since Nuests disbandment from Pledis/Hybe after their 10 year mark.

This is such great info that will better frame when BP2 will air, as well as how to see the format of the show! Thank you for providing such great insight here! Really helpful!

To answer your question about Here I am video, it was released on Dec 29, 2022. Boys Planet Ep 1 didn't air until February. People had the official fancams of the performance for a while, and knew Sung Hanbin was center. Fancams of all the boys was largely considered 'pre-show content' along with other fun variety things the boys were doing at this time. You can def watch it if you want but it will just add to your watch time in addition to the 3 hour episodes lol. Historically, everyone who's ever been center for the signal song had made it into the final group. This also largely explains Hanbin's first place ranking from before the show started. Choi Yoojung in IOI, Lee Daehwi in Wanna One, Sakura in IZ*ONE, Son Dongpyo in X1 (This group was only around 5 months, it was the apex of the rigging controversy, and was disbanded because of it) Dayeon, Xiaoting, and Hikaru in Kep1er, and now Hanbin in ZB1. We don't know the exact details, but basically everything before Ep 5 was 'pre-filmed' in that it had to have happened months before the first episode aired. After the first mission, the trainees get like a month break to rest, etc. I remember a clip of Gunwook went viral around this time because he was hiding behind a pillar cause he was too shy to talk to a fan, since the image he had so far was confident and strong-willed. Minor spoilers but in ep 5/6 you'll see some trainees with new hair or new attitudes since they've had time to watch the episodes, reflect, and change things moving forward if they feel the need.

Yeah Mnet saw a kid who wanted to show confidence after he failed to debut in Wild Idol and played with it as much as they could... and unfortunately, it worked (I was also kinda iffy about him at first, even though I could see the talent). But yes, when he cried and then showed other sides of himself, I started rooting for him like crazy. I swear participants in Mnet shows (can't speak about other broadcasting channels since I only watch Mnet survivals) can't show too much personality, else it'll be used to their disadvantage, unless Mnet wants to push them (but that's another story). One who took note of all this before the show was definitely Hao, after he debuted I felt like I was discovering a brand new person 😂

Lumos

I feel like at the start of the show, they painted Gunwook to be this big tough guy because he his is a big guy, has a large presence, and mixed with his confidence way of speaking about himself and his group, it definitely rubbed some people the wrong way (including me, not gonna lie). That moment of him finally breaking down and crying I think was a great reminder to the viewers that Gunwook is still a kid. Anyways, I think that moment of venerability was good for both him and the viewers because I think it changed people's view of him and he seemed to dial it back the rest of the show and we saw new sides of Gunwook.

Never apologize for the long comments! I enjoy reading them! Love that we are going to be seeing some evolution of him! That can only help him in the future and it makes me curious about his time in ZB1 as well!

Jessica Holyfield

Ooh boy next week is going to be FUNNNNN

Jessica Holyfield

Yes!!! Once having to research about that exact thing has really made me think about music in media so differently!!

Jessica Holyfield

Exactly!!!

Jessica Holyfield

Love that we get the fun element of not really knowing who is who yet but also not the fanwars that come with shows like this 😂 I missed the storm but got the vibes!!

Jessica Holyfield

Love this take and that’s truly why I love watching shows like this with you guys!! Can totally see those perspective with those situations for sure!

Jessica Holyfield

Wanted to comment on G group Love me right team. I don’t think Jays mindset on “In my heart G group already won” was overconfidence or jumping the gun. He was more so saying that he trusts his team and has liked working with him so in his heart it’s already a win. It’s also interesting how we had different takes because with the comment they made about him “singing so well while dancing” I think it’s because they genuinely do not see that in trainees often. Even with some well singing trainees they don’t stay stable on stage and he continuously does. So in that, they’re pointing out that they finally see someone doing that. Even though G group had some bad moments on the stage I still liked them better. overall I feel like they brought the energy the song needed and I watched both the full cam and broadcast.

I have to say, I do like the way you're currently viewing it. Its probably closer to what the live audience see since they don't get the backstory that we get prior to the performances. Also like that you don't exactly know all the ZB1 members either so you can find them more naturally and not have like that thought in the back of your mind "of course he's in the group, he go more screen time". Also I'd recommend not looking up their rankings either, just so you can have some element of surprise when elimination episodes and final line up comes around. And I think you figured out the whole outlier color outfit is the member with the killing part. It's really the "center" but after the whole Produce 101 series controversy I think MNET is trying to really distance themselves from that series and the terminologies they used there. Honestly I'd wish they'd just call it the center because to me the killing part is like one line/section thats like the eye catching part of the song and not a position. But that may be me. And they totally put the groups competing against each other in the same room to up the rivalry since you can SEE your opponents. Plus I don't think they have enough practice rooms for 14 teams. I think its set up to create drama but at lot of times you do see members of opposing teams talk, help each other, and play around during breaks. So as much as the producers want you to see that this is Koreans vs Global trainees fierce battle to the death match, in reality the guys are competitive but are friends with each other.

Secretninja312 (Tina)

Here to comment again after watching part 2 lol. About Gunwook in Kill this Love K Team, I was actually "worried" about him at this point in the show. Even though he got heavy criticism back then because of his overconfident image, he was so talented that I could see him climb the ranks fast and potentially make it to the final lineup. But because of the others already in the top 9 (it was obvious most of them were gonna make it), I could smell the "fresh concept" they were gonna be given from miles away... and I said to my non-dancers friends: "he'll need to learn how to tone it down, else it's gonna become an issue". He had already been using too much power in the signal song test (so much that he lost his footing in the final pose) and here, even though I loved watching his fancam, the whole group felt off to me dancing-wise because he was going too strong compared to the rest. He's a very smart kid though and he probably monitored his performance afterwards, because it never happened again. There's another mission later during which he could have repeated the mistake, but he didn't. So, to answer your question, in my opinion he doesn't stick out "too much" at all in ZB1, on the contrary he's a very amazing member to watch during their performances and when he has to use his power (especially in 2 songs, "Crush" and "Kill The Romeo"), he does it veeeery well. He's definitely one of the members who learnt the most valuable lessons during the show and I think you're gonna love his evolution. I won't write much more because this is already long lol, just wanted to say that I really enjoy rewatching the show along with you! Thank you for the video!

Lumos

when you mentioned the 'Gunwook sticking out' thing first, my mind went immediately to Xikers and Hunter. And then later you actually mention it as comparison. I definitely understand it though! he's showing his strength, but didn't consider the other members in that, since they can't bring the same energy

Rochella Duijs

i'm glad you pointed out how the background music can be manipulative because it really can change the entire implication of what's being shown!! like i feel like so many normal every day conversations would have an entirely different tone if you just put some foreboding music over them lol

oddinry

I just caught up with your BP reactions and I've been having so much fun rewatching this way! On Kill This Love G-group - Zhang Hao (leader/main vocal) IS one of the debut lineup members. One of my favorite things about watching these earlier episodes is seeing how he really brings in his background as a music teacher to help everyone as much as possible and how protective he is of his teammates and other trainees. There are sooo many talents in KTL G Team - Matthew, Keita and Wang Zihao were always top contenders for me as well so its always a joy to watch this performance. KTL K team by comparison is a little bit tough and I have so many thoughts about the gunwook here. I've admired Gunwooks determination and confidence since ep 1 (GBTB - Verivery). That performance was actually one of the first previews they released for the show and it was what initially hooked me in, and I've loved his charisma since day one. He wanted to showcase something to contrast G Team with this performance and I think his strategy to show a more powerful/aggressive version of the song in was smart, even if it didn't totally work for the team as a whole. Hwanhee's vocal condition (illness + vocal nodes) and performance trauma is just so unfortunate bc he really is talented and none of the other boys got much of a feature even though they all performed well! This episode did work against him a bit in the court of public opinion, but I think GW is one of the trainees that was very aware about how was being perceived on tv so in future episodes & challenges he does a good job at showcasing softer and more playful sides of himself to counter the image he has of him being "scary". Also, regarding what you said about gunwook standing out in zb1 songs, I don't think I've ever noticed it. He definitely can blend and match the group, but he definitely does have moments where he pops off and shows his power when the time is right (His center part in the chorus of crush comes to mind for me). Anyways, this was so fun and there are lots of fun (and stressful) things to come! Next episode Back Door and Danger teams have a lot going on story wise so I think it'll be interesting to get your take on the reality of the situation vs the mnetification of it all.

Olivia

Spicy names I tell you haha

Jessica Holyfield

Hahaha I couldn’t agree more 😂 all the fan wars have settled and we have our group (actually many fun groups from this show) which is awesome!

Jessica Holyfield

That’s awesome! Thank you for sharing that I’m picking up on the right people haha

Returning to and rewatching Boys Planet after Universe League is... an experience. Like, it's kind of crazy how egregious the manipulative editing is on BP in comparison to UL, I swear I don't remember it being this bad LMAO Obviously both have their issues when it comes to crafting a narrative they want to portray, but I feel that UL was at least closer to reality / it didn't try to create too many somethings out of nothing. Boys Planet on the other hand... yeah, it's WILD how heavy-handed their music choices and repetitive reaction shots are LOL Especially with the mentor scenes and performances - it gets really out of hand the amount of cuts, shots omitted / included, music choices... But still, great to revisit now knowing all the results and freely clowning on the editing choices 🤣

Matt Vesliño

According to someone who saw the stage on site, the team name was explained on site but not on the show. "22" means the total number of stars the members have(All stars×4 and 3stars×2)... How cruel and intimidating names!

rum

The one you asked if he was in the final line up in the Kill this love G team is Zhang Hao, he is in ZB1 as center as he finished in 1st place In KTL G said 22 and K said Black Venom because is the names of the groups they have chosen for that mission they all did that, sometimes they show it and sometimes they don't

Its Just Lustfly

I’ll try to get to it sooner rather than later!

Jessica Holyfield

cant wait for part 2

odania innocent

hahaha we made it lol

Jessica Holyfield

GIRL SAME!! BP was also my first show and thought it could only get better from there, but it only went down 😓😓😓

Its Just Lustfly

I agree 100%. Boys Planet was my first survival show and that really spoiled me because I thought every survival show would be this high quality and entertaining. One thing I love about Boys Planet is that there’s literally no editing on any vocals so if you’re talented it will show and if you’re not it will also show. Me now knowing the final lineup, they gave so much screen time to people who didn’t make it like: Jay, Keita, Phanbin, Hui, Junhyeon, Haruto, etc.

Zerose777

I couldn't believe no one told you the other group of teachers will get to evaluate them later 🤣 I was about to tell you last episode, but since I joined a few days after that episode was already posted I though "meh, probably someone else already did" 🤣🤣🤣 I don't understand why people complains so much about mnet. I think the lack of screen time of most people happens everywhere, the editors feature the people who gives them the best content, if others trainees don't do anything how can anyone give them screen time at the expense of cutting out more interesting content? Boys Planet featured a lot of trainees who didn't even make it to the final and they did because they were funny AF so the "mnet pushing narratives" argument doesn't make sense to me and also the evil edits happen everywhere. At least Mnet knows how to make it funny? and at least Mnet don't mess up with the vocals of live performances no matter how bad they were, unlike JTBC that tried to make everyone in P7 sound good, taking away the chances of people who is actully good at singing to get noticed... (Yes, I still cry for my pick in P7 and I'm still mad at that line up)

Its Just Lustfly

hahaha glad we all collectively decided to not tell you the other mentors do get to evaluate the trainees they didn't see in person after your whole rant about different standards. Of the 8 YueHua Guys (the 2 teams that performed "Kick It") Zhang Hao was the only one to maintain his rank. Ollie dropped to 0 stars because he was sick and couldn't attend the evaluations. The "gays Planet" really pops out whenever they show the dorms. The Guys do like to play around and hang out across different groups/teams. MNET has released some extra clips of the guys in the dorms on youtube. The guys really do chill and play around with each other regardless of whos competing against who and who's teamed up together for that round. And Yes that was a star level test sticker on Hwanhee's waterbottle. A bunch of guys probably took stacks of stickers from that first ep and stuck it on a lot of stuff. Zhanghao showed his makeup compact during a live stream once where one side had a G-group star and the other had a K-group star. Throughout the show, you'll notice certain trainees get pushed more and certain trainees "disappear" over time and certain trainees get almost nothing. And it doesn't always work the way MNET planned. Like, there are trainees that get a lot of spotlight that don't make it in to the top 9 but there are also trainees who have significantly less screentime who still manage to rank high. So it's not a complete "these guys only made it because MNET showed them more" yes I do think its a contibuting factor but I also think MNET looks at who's being talked about more and decide from that, who to spotlight more. Because I feel like, if it were only MNET's opinion, then they would've focused a lot more on the 10 WakeOne trainees and them only, since they're under the same parent company which would mean they wouldn't have to split group profits with other companies since it would stay within CJE&M. Sung Hanbin definitely was spotlighted and angel edited since the beginning. But looking at his rank based on the Signal Song views and ranking in the first episodes (which had votes from before the episode aired), he was already popular before the show started. Whether the producers decided to push Hanbin after they saw he was gaining traction or they decided that before he stepped in to audition, we don't know. BUT I will defend Hanbin's spot in the group till the day I die. He 100% deserves it. He has the skills, the looks, and seems like a genuinely nice guy, the other trainees seem to love him too, so I do believe he earned his spot in the group. Not gonna lie, I was dissapointed they didn't mention Nu'est when they shows Hwang Minhyun because that is a group he's been a part of for 10 years and part of his credentials and history as an idol. Though they did disband in 2022 the Nu'est guys are still close and do get together from time to time. Can't wait to see you analyze the rest of the episode and performances!

Secretninja312 (Tina)

Seriously, it's so fun to rewatch it with you ! Also, Mnet are the worst with spoils, so personally I always skips the previews at the start of the episodes, because for some of them they will just show you almost the whole climax of some performances, before you even supposed to know what are the teams. Also yep I was waiting for you to see that bit about how unfair it was to not have the same standards for the signal song test x) Oh and just for what Hui said when talking about the G group first team (at 44:30 min here in the video), I think you misunderstood or misread, he didn't say "they are the only talented people" but the subs were "there are only talented people in this team". So just that this specififc team had no one that wasn't talented x) And watching your review of "Here I am" almost got me a little emotional, especially the really cute ending fairies. 😂 And yes for Hanbin, Mnet definitely pushed him, there is no denying that. And to that day, I still wonder if it was just because he ranked first from the other trainees and they were like "Oh okay, he's really good, handsome and the center for the signal song, let's go with him we have our star" (+ they already had the nice friends storyline with Matthew, and they love this kind of stuff) or if they already had decided prior to that for whatever reason. I mean he comes from a small agency, and not one that ever had trainees pushed in the edits or that debuted on any Mnet shows from what I know. So yeah, I still wonder, but he deserves it so much that I'm not even mad at them honestly. And in addition, by seeing the rest of the show it's clear that sometimes Mnet can try their hardest to push a trainee, or to hide one, and it doesn't always work how they want. Anyways, I'm going to stop here because it's already really long, sorry. Thank you again for these videos and have an amazing day !

Lexy S

I was also waiting for you to find out that they ended up judging the trainees in a less "unfair" way for the signal song test. But even then, a few trainees' final rankings didn't get mentioned in the episode, like ZB1's Taerae going from 3 to 4 stars at the last moment, but most importantly some poor boys who were too sick to take the test got 0 stars by default. Ollie, who was in G group's Kick It with Ricky and Zhang Hao, was part of that small gang. It must have been quite upsetting because some of the trainees who were heavily showed in the "Here I Am" video got high rankings from the start, even though they were totally unknown before the show. Anyway, some of the upcoming performances are still iconic two years after. I'll anticipate your reactions to them!

Lumos

12:30 Hahahahaha yes I was just waiting patiently for you to find out🤣🤣

Brooke

And love spoilers and even a little suspense 😂 I’ll take it all

Jessica Holyfield

Oh boy a DELIGHT going into the analysis tomorrow

Jessica Holyfield

I actually remember you mentioning how unfair it was that they don’t cross mark trainee/‘s grades last episode and I was going to mention and I’m so glad I didn’t 😂. Hwang Min-Hyun was also in Seventeen’s older brother group Nu’est as well, they disbanded in 2022. I don’t want to give too much away but G groups’ kill this love is probably my favourite performance of the entire show, not just this episode.
