I'm so glad we finally got to this one haha... Means a lot that you have been one of the suppliers of this group! Many people appreciate it! (myself included!)

Also in reference to the girl in the lyrics, everyone can have their own interpretation ofc but I think sometimes the meaning of the album gets a bit lost in all the noise this release garnered. The album at its most basic level is a journey towards sexual liberation which is a wide spectrum of emotions. And I think they did a good job of not trying to pigeonhole it into a purely gay or straight perspective. It’s fluid, it’s experimenting, it’s figuring out what you do or don’t like. I like that everyone regardless of their identity can resonate with the album, at least in part!
Thanks for your in depth thoughts, it’s was v interesting :D

Something I really like abt this choreo is how much they reference back to their own previous choreo formations or even entire moves. At the time this release felt like such a defining “this is what we were building up to” moment. And I really feel that in the hints of savanna, Dora maar, boss or angel etc. it’s fun!

I am such a sucker for gimmicks and props, when I figured out their ribbon was all black tape measures I LOST IT it’s so cool! I definitely feel on edge with the safety of it though in different performances- especially putting it on one another’s necks!

This is an interesting perspective! I may have to look again but the only time they say “girl” in the lyrics is in the line “girl I just wanna know” which could be a reference to exploration- “I’m just trying to figure something out about myself, it’s no big deal” though that may be a stretch and it absolutely could be for radio play only 😂

Hooray! You finally got to see it! I really appreciate your takes especially on the double standards in the industry- I’ve been struggling a bit with enhypen in particular because, while I know they are all adults now, lthey have had concepts while there were still minors in the group that were concerning- plus the fact that they went all in on a very mature and sensual concept once they were all of age still felt like more of a company decision than a them decision…
But back to OnlyOneOf! I think you had a lot of great insight on this even if it was definitely shocking and takes a minute to process. In regards to your sort of question about the members, I would never feel comfortable asserting anything about them personally based on their performances or concepts. The members themselves do not confirm anything in interviews which could be protective on their part or it could simply be the truth. What we do know is that they were deeply involved in the creation of this piece, they have continued with this concept, and they have gone out of their way in a number of subtle and un-subtle ways to show support of the LGBTQ+ community. (Whenever they go on tour they end up picking up and posing with pride flags from fans for instance) and I think it’s wonderful that they have created such a welcoming space for LGBTQ+ people in their fan base, even if it is still incredibly taboo in Korea.
I definitely see what you mean about the choreo building and showing this unhealthy desire that’s been bubbling up for so long! While I would have to find a justification to send these your way for reactions, since there is minimal dance content involved, they do have a series of solo songs called underground idOl that explore a storyline for each “couple” (which they refer to as units) from both members perspectives that are a lot more grounded and focused on relationships above sensuality! It’s a really beautiful series that gets me teary when I watch it (because I’m a water sign lol) and in some of the stage performances for these songs they do have some choreography, which is fun since other members end up being back-up dancers 😂 again it’s a series of 6 solo music videos so I understand if thats a bit out of your scope and it’s a bit hard for me to recommend them any other way than back to back but they are really great! I believe the music videos were also shot by an LGBT director who does a great job capturing a ton of emotion!
Thanks again for your reaction! There’s definitely more from OnlyOneOf that will be heading your way!

The criticism for the song was two-fold.. Some Koreans clutched their pearls and said it's too provocative and gay and in the west some kpop fans accused them for queerbaiting.
For me, this song made OnlyOneOf my ult group for fearlessly addressing a taboo subject in a conservative country. And also their music... slaps...

Watching people see the crotch slap/grab for the first time never gets old lol. Its a ballsy (literally) move and definitely add shock value to the performance. I did notice that for some broadcast/music show performances they would go between the legs but slap the thigh instead of front and center probably because it was too spicy for TV. Also, I'm totally convinced the one "girl" in the lyrics was to throw off the gayness and make it more radio friendly.

Regarding the girl in the lyrics. I perceive this as a reference to the past, as the lyrical hero, before "libidO", tried heterosexual relationships, and they were mostly, for various reasons, not very healthy. In "libidO", the lyrical hero accepts that his sexual drive is not limited to the opposite sex, and after "libidO", the lyrics in the discography become gender-neutral. However, a significant portion of it looks as if they are about the lyrical hero’s relationships with men.
About certain elements, I mentioned this under your video on "Sexy in the Air" – in Taemin’s dance, there was also an element with leading dancers on a leash, which was altered for the show. It seems there’s some kind of taboo on this))

It's not a ribbon it's actually a tape measure sewn into their gloves which I think is more dangerous tho for the aesthetics it looks good and is really effective one time during a live performance of the duo part between Love and Nine the tape measure ended up getting stuck round Nine's neck and you can see Nine struggling to get it off also during their duo part Nine thought it was funny to purposely wack Love in the crotch during live performances 😂

I'm not laughing at how your eyes get wide throughout watching the MV. I'm not. I'm really not. Always love watching people's first reaction of this one!
