[WSWF] MARLEE HIGHTOWER CHANNEL - I Was On World Of Street Woman Fighter

I wish that MNET would change on the way that they treat these artists, and specifically global groups and POC’s within these crews, but maybe I’m just asking for too much because it’s MNET unfortunately.

It was sad to see a lot of people wishing Motiv would be more "commercial" in their dance styles, when they said they're a crew that focused on traditional/foundational hip-hop since day 1 and I'm glad Marlee reiterated that they tried to stay true to their style throughout the entire show. Now that we had Latrice speak up about her experiences, especially how she felt to be a person of color on the show, and how Marlee talked about the producers/production decisions and the viewer's comments, people forget that this show is FROM the perspectives of South Korean directors and producers FOR a South Korean audience . We got a glimpse of the production lens of the crew when JR was on the show as their first global crew..Now we see it all play out on how producers approached Motiv and how some viewers perceived them (negatively and positively). The same problematic issues brought up when JR joined continued to be displayed on WSWF episodes, i.e. comments about how Motiv won their eliminations because they were Americans and their bodies were bigger, and it continued to get swept under the rug. The mental and emotional anguish these dancers experienced ON and OFF the show from production and online viewers/pseudo "dance experts" must have felt like they were attacked 24/7 . After finishing the show, I'm positive Motiv consistently got the short end of the stick from Mnet and made it because the judges appreciated their movement quality and creativity even when Mnet didn't show and cut up their dance scenes, which is a HUGE accomplishment on a survival show based on popularity.
