This is my illustraton entry for The Red Book zine. It felt really good to paint this old tree, and I was also happy that the photos of forest I did in February became handy.
The bird is a fisher owl, and a squirrel is red squirrel subspecies. I don't know the exact name, but black squirrels are common in the eastern region of Russia and Mongolia.
I decided to draw a fisher owl because this is an endangered species and they live on Sakhalin - my native island. I could also spent enough time by observing the forest and taking inspiration fro, it.
