2019-12-13 17:58:49 +0000 UTCyeah I've often found that the seemingly innocent dialogue are actually very important hints, like in an episode from s1 they were playing a game (it looked like it was cluedo or something) and satoko said "the syringe has all the answers" or uhhh something along those lines XD

2019-12-13 17:58:32 +0000 UTCSo because this was originally a visual novel game, I believe at the time there was speculation among Japanese fans following it about what the different "answers" could be among the mysteries. So I am pretty sure some of these ideas (Aliens, Bacteria, Religion) were put in as a nod/reference to fan speculation around that time? I think I'm recalling that correctly. Hence all the talk about taking notes, government cover-ups, secret organizations, ritualistic sacrifices. I've forgotten quite a lot about Higurashi over the years despite liking it, so this isn't confirmation/denial of anything, in case you were wondering. I do recall thinking that 2nd episode with Zombie Tag had some red flag-ish moments and dialogue despite it being a friendly game. Lies, betrayal, sacrifice, "You left me to die!" Of course, I'm rewatching the anime through the reactions so I won't skip ahead to spoil myself, but man did it feel meta.
