OP 391, 392 & 393 Reaction and Review

Comments

Definitely take notes during this arc. Every single time I watch it I notice something I missed before. lol Oda is too subtle sometimes.

John Kauffman

it's not that deep (why I chose the image dude)

Animaechan

It's interesting for me your choice of cover Image, among Celestial dragons & Slave trading(current world order), Supernovas(Hype and next-generation), and amusement park(??? just fun times?), you chose amusement park.

yeah i agree with u

Rolymoly

Watdh out for next Opening Spoiler!!

H_DJ

Great review! I remember first watching this arc and being amazed on how light hearted then dark it gets in one episode. Never read the manga for these chapters but really interested to see how Oda presented this.

Chris Mitchell

X3 shi shi shi

Animaechan

I feel like it's been a long time since I left a comment (?) Ha ha. I just want to thank you for such a great video and discussion, it is always nice to hear your honest opinion. Also, something that I really like is how you go back to past annotations to confirm some data or compare it with what is happening in One Piece at the moment. Another thing I would like to add is that I can agree with you that there are many stories to tell in OP, the Mugiwara are just a part of what happens, but the history or the world that Oda built feels so alive that You can easily imagine how around the Mugiwara, others move, follow a goal, have different actions, adventures and problems. It feels like a world full of stories to tell and that made me think of your crew and how it can easily fit in the extravagance that is One Piece, and in the endless adventures you can have. And it's very cool to imagine! 🌸 I send you a big hug!!

Ivette Palma

Shakie is old... Shakkie was chased by Garp all the time... Black hair... Shakkie is Luffy's Grand mother !! (Joke, I just remember that kind of talking about Smoker and Zoro)

Legewien

It's Peter Pan reference, same costume as Disney movie, and Peter Pan is, in a way, a child that kidnap other childs to his wonderland.

Legewien

i see your point and i dont think you are saying slavery is good. but in the story, the navy "having their hands tied" does not vindicate them because their inaction is enabling this injustice. the point is, whether they oppose it or not, the fact they haven't done anything or speak out against it makes them guilty as well...

Patty Buns

I can relate to your university talk way too much lol. I had similar subjects and now they interest me so much more than back then when it was all about the grades. But of course you start to have interest in them again when you realize you don’t have nearly enough time anymore to go that in-depth 😂

Mido

Okay, you are right. I should've not wrote that. But just want to say, everything I wrote was purely based on these 3 episodes you watched from this post. While watching your reaction I thought to myself while you started to curse the Navy that I to myself started to curse the Nobles. It funny how it became so different is my main point basically.

Niklas

You said “ It's hard to describe further without spoiling so I'll avoid that.” so why bring up something/point things out that we can’t discuss without spoiling me?

Animaechan

Same thing in real life as regular citizens we have no say I mean it's not bad to this extent but OP is based on real world stuff which is why I love this show

Jarvis Fowlkes

I specifically referenced to the episodes you just watched and nothing else..

Niklas

Why then, if this touches on spoilers, are you discussing it at all 🙄🙄 and not letting the story unfold naturally and let me come to my own conclusions?

Animaechan

I'm not saying slavery is good, because obviously it is not. I'm just saying I don't think Navy is the villain in this case, but the World Government is. WG is basically forcing Navy to abide their tyranny. When watching these 3 episodes, I never thought of the Navy as shitty, but the WG. That's just my perspective though. I do agree with the point that it was suppose to make us feel like "wtf! why are no one doing shit about this?!" but the law enforcement of One Piece world hands are tied in this specific case. It's hard to describe further without spoiling so I'll avoid that.

Niklas

i believe KT is correct in her perspective and in this case it IS black and white. you're supposed to be angry about it esp since it's so relatable even today and that's Oda's point. Oda even has characters like Chopper say "why isn't anyone doing anything about this?!" bc that's how he expects the reader to feel

Patty Buns

It's quite common knowledge though about the history (and present) about Christianity. Made into mainstream movies and TV series as well. It was just an example even if teacher - kid situation is worse. But, I do see what you mean. Even so, there are many examples where something or someone do something horrendous while those working under are working full knowingly what they are up to. I do belive the Navy should not put up with it though. They just sweep it under the rug. As what happened in the first episode you watched of this post. 391 that is. After the celestial dragon shoot the slave, the Navy comes up to "take care of the aftermath". They are fully aware, no doubt. I'm just saying governments can and are shady as fuck and law enforcement still have to to what they are being told no matter how corrupt the government are.

Niklas

We had this conversation in the discord last night and you’d be surprised at how people can feel differently about this topic, especially with regards to modern slavery, and other topics related to/stemming from that discussion.

Animaechan

Yeah there have been tons of references like that in OP so far like wanze (the mad hatter).

Animaechan

That’s very different from Christians or parents who don’t know about some shit that some ministers or teachers get up to.

Animaechan

That is a wildly inaccurate claim. Teachers molest children more than ministers do, at least at present. Just because this fact exists does not mean all parents support their children being molested. Being unaware of something when it’s happening behind closed doors VS doing nothing when it’s happening right in front of your eyes is completely different, ESPECIALLY when you are law enforcement. If they are aware of it yet choose to do nothing because it’s the celestial dickheads, they do choose to support it by turning a blind eye.

Animaechan

And a Mihawk origin story anime be awesome as well

KaitouLuminous

And Zoro, Zoro's surname was based on the Japanese pronunciation of French pirate François l'Olonnais.

KaitouLuminous

Speaking of the slave trading, you're not wrong technically about Navy HQ support slave trading when it occurs. But I don't believe it's so black and white. I don't belive they support it, however they can't say or do anything because the nobles can do whatever they want and get away with it. In a way, the navy are slaves to the nobles. Your reasoning is like inhabitants of America is pro murder while US Army is fighting a war and killing in the name of justice, or.. All Christians are pro pedofelia while ministers of the church etc. has been molesting kids for centuries. This arc is so interesting and opens up a lot to discuss, really! PS. You are extremely observant of many things, things I myself never noticed first time watching it. Not going to name specifics obviously, to not draw more attention to anything.

Niklas

loved these eps!!

abood22

It's funny because while i'm rewatching op with you, I notice some details like when Oda want to hide somethings from us he split the crew, like here if robin and nami didn't go shopping, they surely ask at Shakki why the marine is too busy for the rookie. I hope you try to rewatch it too after the end like you said, i think it could be very fun. And it's a good excuse for me to re re watch one piece :D

The next opening (11) is my second favorite one piece opening and I can't wait to see your reaction to it! But it has too many spoilers, so please don't watch it, just listen :o

Clyper

Oh golly, I've been looking forward to your reactions to these episodes so much, ahah. Excitement! On the etymology of "Sabaody," the name is based on the Portuguese word for soap, sabão. To the ears of some unacquainted anglophones such as myself, it can sound more like "sabawn" or some such as a result of the nasalization on the final vowels. But, due to the quirks of the Japanese phonological and phonetic systems, the pronunciation is rendered something like "shabon" in Japanese.

*passes out due to over-excitement*

ana carolina.

I would watch an alternative story about one of the supernovas, how they begun and recruited crew members, it's certainly would be better that all the bs shonens that is airing now. One Piece world is so detailed and well thought there is nothing like it.

Monk

They call him Peterman, but his green outfit makes him look like Peter Pan.

hurryupmode

Drake, Kid, Hawkins and Bonney are names based on real pirates, just as Bartholomew (Kuma), Blackbeard and Bellamy

DrCaesar98

I forgot about Brooke's reactions at the park. Seeing him waving politely as his "kids" ride on the Merry Go Round is adorable.

i just love this arc so much. so happy you're finally at this point

One piece really deals with some serious dark staff from the real life. I saw many anime but no one does it as good as One Piece..The world just expanded in this arc.

Shamim Ahmed

I think try to not be too afraid of conflicting opinions and stuff. It's not like anyone is going to be in support of slave trading... RIGHT? Hoping you don't feel the need to reserve yourself too much. I absolutely love this arc and I love your reactions/discussions so I am enjoying these episodes a lot :D thanks for all the hard work!

SomeoneElse

isnt Peter like another name for a pedo? he looks like one, hes a peter, and he wore a teddy costume...that shit suspect as hell..

wonder777warrior

Gotta love the Supernovas Hype. What do you think, Jewelry Bonney Cosplay or Perona Cosplay? (Without leaving aside the possible future Robin 'Thriller Bark' Cosplay)

Kuroashi

lol maybe they thought he'd be weaker without the rest of his crew around? or... they could catch him off guard? idiots XD

Animaechan

Well I've watched some/heard about weird movies/shows in the past where (for example) aliens who look like dogs take over the planet and are much smarter than humans etc XD honestly I would've just rolled with it lol

Animaechan

hey that guy has a bounty of 300mil and also is the one who directly waged war against the world gov in ennies Lobby, lets go mess with this guy because he looks weak.....

wonder777warrior

So much information!! I have been waiting for this arc since day 1, I'm really happy to see you get here. Also the best reaction when you thought the dog was the Celestial Dragon xD. Thanks for the great work KT!!

He didn't sound familiar to me yet. If I recognise it later, I'll look it up. But for now, I just want to enjoy him as Law.

Animaechan

very interesting thought! Wasn't it mentioned that they (Enel and his priests) were from a "warrior sky island" and (like you mentioned) he destroyed it with his power? HMMM...

Animaechan

The rookies introduction is always so hype Also you know the VA for Trafalgar Law Try guess it! Great reaction as always

This is just an observation I've made but Urouge has the same type of wings as Enels priests, does that mean they all came from the same sky island. Because Enel's priests wings were different from the Skypieans and Shandians but Urouge's are the same as theirs. I wonder if he had a history with Enel because it was stated he destroyed his home sky island so that's a backstory I want to see

KaitouLuminous

I love it whenever One piece handles heavy subjects like human trafficking, slavery, discrimination, etc. Oda really gets in his bag and shows how prevalent it is in our day and age

stressbean

Ahh the darker side to the world of one piece is rearing it's ugly head. Sweet Kami GOda sama I hate the celestial dragons

KaitouLuminous

Hmm, sadly I don't know much about Rio :( But I'll Google.

Animaechan

XD she's super cute, albeit a dork! hahahah I'll take it as a compliment

Animaechan

Just compare the lawless zone with the favelas in Rio de Janeiro.

RiShinMarco

KT reminds me of Caimie. There, I said it! I am sorry, lol
