If I remember correctly when Kirito asked Kayaba why he trapped them he said that he since a child dreamed of a world where there were no human limitations and he wanted the players to take his world seriously. Something like that, i dont remember well. Regarding GGO alternative I think you should give it a try, the characters are very cute and since you liked The first arc of SAO 2 i think you will also enjoy GGO alternative.

It gives indeed some more Details etc about GGO, but since the Main Characters are different, its not the Original SAO Cast ( The 12 Episode Anime put 3 or 4 Volumes into it, where surely quite some Details get left out, otherwise there are 6 more Volumes that they could use actually, since in Japan are 10 Volumes released of the GGO Side Story)
