[HAIKYU!!] E20, 21 and 22 Full Reactions

almost a year late but i wanted to say i think the reason i like Oikawa so much is because of how human he is, because humans are ambitious and strive to always get better when someone is naturally more gifted and surpasses you no matter how much work you've put into being the best, envy and jealousy will manifest and Oikawa falls definitely in this basket because he knows it's only a matter of time he will not help Kageyama growing faster if only for a little more he will stay at the top. And i think it's interesting how Iwaizumi said he was always smiling no matter what which makes me believe that he repress a lot of stress and frustration but try to keep his head high not letting the facade slip and after that match, after getting switched making him believe his time had come to a stop like any other person would building up so much for so long, he snapped. Lucky for him he got stopped in time because he most likely wouldn't have been able to move past it if he had actually hit Tobio he may be nasty but he isn't a bad person and after getting a little scolding he understood how far his obsession had taken him so now instead of ignoring and smiling repressing his emotions he would just be petty and say what he thinks very childish but already more healthy than overworking himself mentally and physically to a breaking point so yeah i just rambled a lot but i think all this makes Oikawa both likeable and despicable i can understand both side myself leaning toward liking him

i know it can be hard to get and i totally dont want to change your opinion on the characters cause you are you and i love your videos BEACUSE of your own view on things, just wanted to say that it actually is a really hard thing to deal with if you hit a wall in something you are passionate about and all of the sudden someone with much greater potential appears behind you. its very offputting and can lead to strong behavior like jealousy ^^

I can only speak for myself that I based my comment on everything that you watched up until now, for me it is natural to like either oikawa or kageyama. You have the prodigy and the hard working Character (def not saying that kageyama doesnt train hard and has not to improve either), and i see myself liking oikawa and his funny twisted personality more satisfying to watch, i guess thats everything someone could experience up until now, if not im def sorry

Ye, im kinda frustrated as well when people don't like Oikawa since he is my fav from Haikyu but I can somewhat understand it. My first time watching Haikyu I didn't like him in the first season too. Maybe KT will like him later on as well. Right now she's very focused on Kageyama lol

yeah I can definitely understand that, kind of like, "jealousy is the sincerest form of flattery" or something, but since Kageyama was his kohai + the fact that he's my favourite character, I'm less likely to see it like you :)

I feel like the reason why Oikawa didn't really want to teach Kageyama is because he respects him as a player and sees him as a rival and a genius that will improve rapidly by himself. While it was a little selfish thing to do, it's also understandable, you wouldn't want to teach a person how to work better at the same job as you, just so he would overtake your position and you would lose the job. Even if it isn't about a real job, the circumstances are similar, you are given time on the court depending on how valuable to the team you are.

One of the reasons I like Oikawa is that he recognised Kageyama as a rival since before high school. I don’t really see it as him being an asshole when he was refusing to teach Kageyama his tricks, because he knew that if he did that, he wouldn’t really stand a chance against Kageyama. Also I love that he makes up for his lack of natural talent with hard work and strategy. I’m obviously not trying to change your mind on the character, it’s just something I thought about during the reaction.

The way I see Oikawa is that he is very similar to Hinata in that he has this hunger for victory but unlike Hinata he doesn't have this amazing potential to get to instead he is beating his head against the wall trying to make himself good enough. The problem is that when faced with a true genius sometimes hard work just isn't enough and that can make you feel like you are stuck and have nowhere to go and that in turn turns into hate. The reason he dislike Kageyama is the same reason Hinata wants to win, so they can play more volleyball.
