The Astrea family definitely needs therapy. I feel bad for all of them, even the piece of shit Heinkel (Reinhard's father). All of them have their own issues. Reinard as the current Sword Saint is not even seen or treated as a human by his own family. Wilhelm finally got closure with his wife at the end, but had to witness his wife be killed again. Right in front of him. By his own grandson. And while Wilhelm accepts that what Reinhard did was the right thing to do, I think what triggered him was the fact he did it so coldly with no emotion. So its sad that it looks like the rift will never end. Wilhelm at the end addresses him as the Sword Saint, not as his grandson. Then there's Heinkel. He was originally meant to be the one leading the fight against the White Whale, but was too chickenshit to do it which is why Theresia was sent in his place. The thing about Heinkel is that regarding his skills with the sword he's nothing special. Pretty average. That's why he didn't want to lead the fight. I think he harbors alot of guilt for indirectly sending his own mother to her death. Not knowing it was actually Pandora who seemingly took her life. The fact Reinhard inherited the divine protection during the white whale fight.. makes it easier for Heinkel to blame his son. I do think ALOT of it is projection. A very messy screwed up man. We understand its a person's way of coping with guilt and trauma.. but it still is a terrible thing to do. Heinkel is for sure a bad person for how he's treating his own son, but what makes it so good is we can understand where it all stems from. This family just seems cursed to unhappiness which is so tragic and unfair.
