AMA — Wingman
Added 2018-10-16 19:55:00 +0000 UTCQ.: Are Wingman's wings retractable? I was going to ask if they were a part of his costume but in an earlier arc he felt it when the wingtip was burned.
A.: In the original Evil Inc universe, Wingman was a Green Lantern type superhero. His wings were used by an intergalactic police force — the F'zz. The wings were stolen by an alien, who gave them to Wingman — who use them to fight for justice. However, the F'zz are still looking for the return of the wings.
These wings were made out of solid energy, and could be turned on or off. Besides flight, they boosted his strength and had force-field capabilities.
In the new Evil Inc universe, Wingman is more of a mutant-type superhero. His wings grow organically out of his body — and can be reabsorbed. Also, his augmented strength and force-field powers have been removed.
And, as you noted, they can be damaged like real wings...
Wingman's character design was originally based on two other bird-themed superheroes. His headpiece is pretty obviously a nod to DC Comics' Hawkman, while his open-to-the-waist vest was based on Marvel's Falcon.
