TAGS! We got tags!

This is Very Big News — especially for patrons at the $10 level and higher. I'm in the beta group for Patreon's new feature — content tags.

What does that mean?

One of the (few) shortcomings of Patreon was that I couldn't group content for you. For example, I had no way to easily allow you to read only the Evil Inc After Dark comics. There was one looooong continuous scroll that contained all of the content that I had posted. And I pride myself on posting a lot of content here for you. (Well over 500 exclusive posts, at last count.)

Once I've had a chance to go back and tag all of my posts (and it's gonna take a while) you will be able to simple click a tag to filter the content by the subject that you're interested in seeing at that moment. UPDATE: As of this writing, all of the posts going back to October 2015 have been tagged.

"Tell me more!"

When a patron is viewing the "Posts" section of my Patreon page, they'll see a “Filter” section on the left-hand side that'll list all of the tags I've created. If they click one of the tags, the page will show all of the posts containing that tag. They can also click a tag straight from within one of the posts, leading them to all of the posts with that tag.

I can only use five tags per post, so I won't be able to get very granular with this. I will use content titles — Evil Inc After Dark, Courting Disaster, Evil Inc, NSFW sketch, etc —and subheadings (like storyline titles), and after that, one or two keywords.

So, you'll be able to filter all of the Evil Inc After Dark comics, and you'll be able to read only the Sidekicks story in the Evil Inc After Dark series. Additionally, you'll be able to filter some broad content types.

"I don't see no stinking tags"

Since this is a beta test, some of my patrons won't be able to see the tags. Keep an eye on the left-hand column in that Posts page though. It will be implemented across-the-board soon. And do let me know how it's working out for you.

The end of the monthly reward links?

The way I tried to supplant the lack of tagging in Patreon was to send you a monthly links package. These links pointed to folders of categorized content — one folder of Evil Inc After Dark comics, one folder of Courting Disaster cartoons, and so forth. And the interface for reading the comics in those folders is pretty good.

So are those monthly links going away?

Not yet. I've got a lot of tagging ahead of me. Since September 2015, I've been posting more than 20 posts per month — with more than half of the past 11 months getting 30 posts or more!

But you tell me — is reading these comics on the Dropbox interface a better experience than reading them on Patreon? My instinct is to continue the practice on that assumption alone — even after the tags have been completed.

Unless I discover someone is abusing the links by sharing them with a large group of people or re-posting the content elsewhere, I'm very happy to continue offering it.

But I want to hear your thoughts... is this something you think is worth continuing after the tags have been set? As always, comments are welcome here — or, if you prefer anonymity, use the Courting Disaster contact page.

I agree. And it's really not hard to do every month. More importantly, I haven't seen any signs of abuse (thanks, everybody!) so I'm inclined to continue just for the additional option for those who want it.

Looking forward to using the tags feature. Personally, I think the dropbox links feature is handy too. Two different ways to get at the same info. Hard to tell as of yet, but the tags feature doesn't seem to guarantee things in posted order?

I agree. This was long overdue. But I'm overjoyed it's here now. I've got all of the posts through May tagged and I'm bushed. I'm moving on to a couple other projects today. But I'll keep you posted with my progress here — for your benefit and to help me keep track! Great news! Better late than never to the tag party.

About time. Seriously no clue why this wasn't a feature at launch. Just about every other site with image album capabilities has had tagging or folder organizing of some kind for years . Awesome that you got in the beta :D
