Comments

In a couple of weeks. I'm working on EiAD #17 this afternoon, and then it's on to that page.

Brad Guigar

When the 2nd half of this published, you teased in comment "to be continued on Patreon", when is that EiAD going to pop up?

Rick Greene

Taylan: This version of Miss Match slept with Phantom Swordsman for a reserved parking spot.

Mr. Nobody

I too enjoy that emotional commitment between MM and Cap, but I trust what Brad's doing here. MM and Cap are clearly still interested, but it didn't happen over night. This is the character development of how they eventually ended up together. Whether its Cap getting jealous when he sees her with another man or MM feeling guilty or upset when she thinks she might have ruined a chance at something better. They still have that connection but exploring this leg of their journey allows us to see will their relationship developed and why it is so different from other characters. Perhaps it's just me but I never believed either of them were together because they were so Puritan that they had never been with anyone else. I presumed they were together because they found something in each other that they had never found with anyone else before.

Caleb Davis

Oh god...please don't remind me that. It is like Vietnam flashbacks.

Taylan

Also, it could have been a lot worse. Brad could have had Capt. Heroic make a deal with Satan to wipe his marriage/children out of existance, ala Peter Parker.

Mr. Nobody

I enjoyed the "marriage/family" era stories very much, but I feel that those stories had kind of entered into a rut and were played out, and I'm enjoying the dynamics we're getting with Cap, M.M., Iron Dragon, and Desi being single again and interacting with new/different characters.

Mr. Nobody

I get that and I respect that is your decision since this is your comic after all. It is just personally distasteful for me...especially with reboots and changes that happened in comics lately where you can barely find something stable. The problem I have is the investment in characters and suddenly, all of it gone with a reboot and everything you know ''to start over''. Now I am able to manage that because this is a new universe after all and the good ol' one is still out there somewhere. Still, seeing Miss Match or Cap with other people in these situations where we didn't get much back in their marriage...kinda feels like a gutpunch for me personally. It is not to say you are writing BAD now... heck it might be getting even better. It is the point where characters grow bigger than the stories for the readers. And I guess it also involves my old-timey thinking for ''true love'' of Cap and Miss Match that makes me cringe everytime they get it on with other people. One night Stand type of stuff is fun but abundance of it also hurts the characters for me, even when they are Villains. Again, it is just a personal distaste and probably others will enjoy, especially if they are new to the dynamic. I guess it is the hardest part of being an old fan after a reboot, you deal with characters who are the same people ...but not the same people at all O.o Fun to read for a while but eventually you go...well where is thing gonna go ? And yea, I am kinda sad that if we are gonna get EIAD with Miss Match and it might not be with Cap for real. Sure we got the Dream and hypno versions of her but the real deal...sadly not yet. Frankly, I always found a married dynamic more interesting than single ones. Too many single/ONS/flings going around that just makes all of them look bland and similar. Uninteresting. That is why I found Cap and Miss Match to be fresh and unique. Not just that they were Hero and Villain married..but actually married. Sure their single versions can create great stories like you plan to... it just...can be interchangeable with other characters . Maybe I am shallow to determine Cap and Miss Match by their marriage status... but so far, in the new version, I cannot set them apart from the rest of the crew yet. Since everyone is kinda acting similar and banging eachother with no real relationship or interest other than getting into their pants. I mean the closest we have is Iron Dragon's plan for Desi... Maybe the future panels will prove me wrong and I will take everything I say back. And it does create a lot of interesting plots for EIAD... I just think I will skip the scenes like the ending panel because I think I was too attached to Miss Match and Cap and it literally made me feel bad seeing that. And it was quite beautifully drawn too... that hurt more :D Bah, sorry for the long text. I guess the changes in Marvel and DC kinda effect me badly that my feelings turn similar to even webcomics... And to think I am trying to create my own universe and can't even handle a simple reboot or dynamic change like this O.o

Taylan

Finally, let me tell you a story — one that I've told in other forums quite often. One day, I made a drastic change to my comic... it was — literally — a night-and-day difference. And I got an amount of negative comments from readers that remains unmatched to this day. What did I do to rouse their dislike? I switched from doing a black-and-white comic to full-color. It was unmistakably the right decision. The comic looked better — hell, the comic WAS better. But the reader reaction was visceral. I was much less confident then, and I went through a great deal of trouble to build code into my site that showed the b&w version of my comic for anyone who requested it. A few weeks later, I checked my stats. Literally no one was using it. Maybe the b&w purists had left for good. If that was the case, my stats showed that they had been replaced (and then some) with new readers. That experience taught me something very important. Number One: People are always going to react negatively to change — even if it's an objectively fantastic change. And Number Two: If I try to change what I'm doing to satisfy those negative reactions to change, I'm going to run myself in circles and never do work that *I'm* satisfied with. That's not to say that I'm not listening ... that I don't value your thoughts and comments. But, at the end of the day, I've got to do what I think is best. And, given the new direction of my comic, this is what I think will support the best stories.

Brad Guigar

As for the Miss Match / Captain Heroic dynamic... I changed that because I wanted to explore that side of their relationship more. I felt I had missed an opportunity for some good storytelling by starting off with those two already married. It's a gut instinct that I — as a writer — have to trust.

Brad Guigar

Taylan: Nobody indicated that she was sleeping with a customer for a sale.

Brad Guigar

I know this is suppose to be a new universe but ...I just cannot feel comfortable seeing Cap or Miss match, banging with other people left and right like this O.o Not to mention if this would be Miss Match's first real EIAD ...without Cap.... I just can't... Their marriage made their personalities special since they were not like every other hero or villain that just goes around having one night stands that mean little. And it challenged them. These 2 new versions... I can barely call them 'unique'. They are no different than any other character so far. Miss Match literally sleeping with 'customers' for a sale...is something I cannot accept something she would do...

Taylan

I agree wholeheartedly! Although, in *this* case, the EiAD episode will have to be a flashback instead of a continuation, and I'm still trying to get my head around the best way to pull that off.
