Evil Inc After Dark #17, Page 5

I needed to take a little more time to set this story up, but with today's pay-off — and the next page's reveal — I think you're gonna agree that it was worth it. Extra credit if you caught the easter egg in Panel Four (the name of the super team that a young Fireworx was in), give yourself an extra-big pat on the back!

From the comments (below):

Q: What is Compact Cassette Tape Boy's power (other than being evocative of the mid-late 70s)?

A:  That would be Mixtape. His superpower was the ability to duplicate up to three superpowers from any superhero on the planet before going into battle. He could change this mix, of course, but only from his headquarters in his upstairs bedroom. He preferred to choose only one power from three different heroes — he considered sampling two or three powers from the same hero to be unseemly. These powers tended to degrade and get weaker with each use... until he got a chance to create a new mix. He was a founding member of the Age-of-Legal-Consent Titans, and worked with them for several years before being eviscerated by talons of the prehistoric pillager, the Pterrorist. His teammates worked feverishly to save his life, but, alas... no one had a pencil.

Probably shapechanging, some sort of phermone hypnotic effect, and telepathy so you always know what she wants.

Orenthal: That begs the question — What are the sexiest superpowers?

Brad Guigar

I got this silly mental picture of him trying to collect the most suave or cool powers, and flirting with young Fireworx.

Caleb Davis

Holy crap that's awesome! I wanna see that story now!

Alpha Minor

I gotta be 100% honest. When Alpha asked the question, my immediate reaction was, "Shit... I got nothing! I just put a cassette tape on that guy's chest to make him look all 70s." But I'll be damned if I was gonna admit that. So I sat down and wrote a backstory. :)

Okay, I gotta know. What is Compact Cassette Tape Boy's power (other than being evocative of the mid-late 70s)?

But I shall now paraphrase the MST3k Mantra: "Now repeat to yourself it's just a comic, I should really just relax."

Mr. Nobody

The beehive hairdo from Conrad's autographed photo was popular in the early 1960's, and that lab equipment looks like something out of a 1930s Universal horror film, so it's quite possible Fireworx was already in her forties/fifties at that autograph signing.

Mr. Nobody

Man, I feel for the guy... He wants to keep his wife happy after 40 years but can't do it by himself. I wonder how she would take this though.

Taylan

The curse of falling in love with an eternally young woman. Part of me is jealous and me part of me sympathized with him. At least they still love each other; now that the sentiment is out of the way we can get down to the dirty; can't wait to see how this plays out.

Michael Obert

I'm not sure I understand... but I need to make this perfectly clear — she is of legal age in any and all scenes.

Brad Guigar

In Anime Terms, she was a Junior College student, then? :) And given her age and timeframe, was that the Revived Sentinel of Liberty she got the picture with, or the anti-communist replacement from the 50s? Just trying to place dates.

Eric Burns-White

No clue on the Easter egg, I was too busy admitting that wedding day bow tie!
