Evil Inc After Dark #51, page 3

Here's something new I'm trying. In an attempt to get even more After Dark into your hands (er... hand...) I wanted to experiment with hiring guest artists. Having recently discovered GazingRhino's work, I asked him if he wouldn't mind being the test case.

This is the first of a two-page segment that will lead into a new direction for Destiny and Battalion.

Thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts — both the pros and the cons. 🙂 As this point, this is something I’ll probably do only very rarely. I like having the option, but I totally understand the visual continuity aspect as well. In this particular case, I couldn’t resist. I needed two solid “story” pages to set up Dynasty’s new direction — which will lead to some pretty great stuff — and this seemed like the best way to hit the fast-forward button. In general, I don’t see that happening often.

I don't think we have to worry about Brad hiring some wildly off-model artist to draw EiAD. This is fine. Brad: "Next week, the long awaited wedding of Captain Heroic and Miss Match will be drawn by special guest artist Bill Sienkiewicz, at his most abstract, post-modern, goofiest!" Me: "Um..."

Mr. Nobody

@Caleb, your point is valid. It's just that it's a visual medium and I'm accustomed to (and spoiled by) Brad's artistry.

Yes! Think about how Brad feels about you hiring scab artists! Where will you be, Brad, if Brad decides to quit over this! /S Personally, if Brad is writing it, or at least supervising it, I'm okay with it.

Hate to be a wet blanket, but I'm not thrilled with the guest artist idea. From it's inception, Evil Inc. has been a 100% Brad Guigar production (colours by Alex Heberling excepted) and the quality has only continued to improve. Guest artists --or writers-- introduces a random element that threatens that consistent quality. Back in the 90's, the mismanagement style at Marvel Comics resulted in their top talent quitting to form their own company. Marvel's response was to arrogantly announce that it didn't matter who wrote and drew their comics, the public would continue to to buy them just because of the characters. Surprise, surprise: turned out they were wrong. I'm not saying this is that exact situation, but if I'm not seeing Evil Inc. by Brad Guigar, then it doesn't feel like I'm seeing the real Evil Inc.

Yes. Thanks for the kind heads-up. I'll fix that

Also, I may be crazy, but wasn't her name Dynasty previously?

Honey, what's with all these bills for hospital visits? Oh, you know, just getting filled up, I mean checked out, I mean checked up . . .

Michael Obert

Yes, Alex did the coloring :)

Brad Guigar

And apparently her additional superpower is talking with her mouth full

KillaCam7010

Did Alex do the coloring, because it just doesn't seem as vibrant as her usual work.
