"Don't overdo it! It's only Tuesday, so be sure to pace yourselves!"

I think one of the biggest delights of working in a style that isn't necessarily your own is trying to apply it to things that were never meant to be drawn in that style. 

It's a good challenge to try to understand the "logic" of a certain look.
I have the darndest time with the Gibson look for Isabelle here, some really rounded forms turned out to be super fun and gratifying  to draw in his style



One thing is this above moment of her ear on the shoulder, darkening the lines on either side of the ear helps it feel like it bows out toward the viewer,  the brightest part being closest. A few other lines on top help  define it as a really dimensional, chunky shape laying on her shoulder.

I find myself putting down lines in places just because they show a change in the curvature of a surface, not because I need to show a shadow.



Drawing labia sure is a task though. The more lines you add to something more likely it is to appear wrinkly or textured, and I wanted to make her look soft and plump so I reworked this area so many times, reducing the lines and adding more until it felt like like some kinda equilibrium was reached.

 I LOVE erasing away lines to make the underwear though, and I've seen evidence of Gibson scratching back into his illustration board to create white highlights in some of his art too. The  fact that there is so little texture in the panties and it's totally defined by a erased edge, not a outline allows it to feel bright and luminous.

Gibson sometimes pulls this off by darkening everything around an object to create a sharper contrast relationship around the form, but erasing away feels very different since it interrupts the line and your eyes kinda complete the shape.

This makes me want to draw more lacy white things on characters just to see how much fun I can have with it. :)
