November Report

Hello everyone and welcome to the November Report! Here's a recap of the plans and production of the past month, starting with the November agenda:

🍂November Agenda🍂
⏹️ CYOA Update
✅ Fanart/Theme Poll
✅ Libby & Holly Comic Lineart
⏹️ The Evergreen Webstore Goal

Two out of four, is kinda disappointing but I’m pleased with the comic progress all the same! I’ll get into those, but first– Here’s a little review of the behind the scenes/sketchbook stuff that's for gold patrons and the monthly dropbox downloads! Because I worked in Clip Studio a bunch this month I have 8 timelapse process videos to share!

The theme early on in the sketchbook was character explorations for Aster and Holly. I still haven’t finished their character sheets so that’s something I’ll be handling this month before i have to draw them both too much more. 🙂

I drew some rare dudes in the sketchbook this month and also a bunch of Libby’s…it happens.

⏹️ CYOA Update - I definitely back burnered this when I got distracted by the fanart/theme poll, which was a lot of fun and full of good ideas. Good news is that I know what I’m doing for the next update so I hope to have that this week!

✅ Fanart/Theme Poll - You all had some great suggestions and I ended up running with the pegging couple suggestion while the voting was happening since I knew I’d have fun with it and I was right ;)

I’m pleased with the variety of poses that came out of this and it was a good fit for the autumnal palette I’ve been working with. I’m very grateful for all the kind words you had about this one, and for the suggestion🥰

When the votes did come in and the tentacle witch theme was at the top I had a little too many ideas.

I was happy to have been able to record the full timelapse of this first illustration because it’s rare that I take something so far through the process all in Clip Studio Paint before moving to Photoshop for post processing.

Continuing on that theme I’ve been playing around with this nightie witch and it’s turned into another sprawling multi-illustration montage thing.

A close second in the poll was to see what the hikers have been up to and I’m working on Poppy & Oak piece right now. Once these two are completed I’ll take on some of the fanart characters!

✅ Libby & Holly Comic Lineart - This is where a lot of the time went this month instead of toward the CYOA.

I’ve got 6 pages of clean art with another two to go and I’m trying to consistently add the speech bubbles as I go instead of waiting until the end so it’s in a more completed state from the start.

The most recent two pages have been really fun but also kinda slow as I adapt the Gibson girl look for Libby’s flight of fancy. Drawing the same character across different styles is something I’ve never had to do before.

The next two have already been roughed out, so once I clean up those two pages I’ll be going back to another 8 roughs to finish what I’ve thumbnailed.

⏹️ The Evergreen Webstore Goal - This is still tricky. Ultimately I’m going to grit my teeth and continue with Gumroad, because the webstore is a huge pain. Maybe next year I’ll have my own but it’s going to require the help of a web developer friend of mine to make sure I’m not building a non-secure web store.

The problem is basically this. You need a storefront to receive orders and a payment gateway to process them. Adult content is not allowed on all ecommerce platforms, but more importantly, many payment gateways (Paypal, Stripe, etc.) don’t technically allow adult product payment processing.

Which means you have to go with a “high risk industry” payment gateway, which can be expensive for me, and shady looking to you. Even gumroad doesn’t guarantee they can sell your product if Paypal decides it doesn’t like it.

Blah blah blah I kept making endsheets to make the comics and when I put physical prints on gumroad you’ll all be the first to know!

⛄December Agenda⛄
⏹️ CYOA Update
⏹️ Fanart/Theme Drawings
⏹️ Libby & Holly Comic Roughs pg8-16

⏹️ Libby & Holly Comic Lineart as many as possible
⏹️ The Evergreen Webstore Goal Update Gumroad as a Temporary Solution

This is honestly probably even ambitious considering how much December gets swallowed by holiday travel for me but the next couple weeks should be reasonably calm and I look forward to having new things to show you all!

Thank you for your support and I hope you are all having a lovely start to December!

♥️hehe I'm glad because I have fun with it. I'm just a little mid century man living in contemporary times 😜

I always love reading your reports! I hope that you will find a solution for the physical book problem

I think of it as running through a scenario in my brain, imagining one action to the next and I quickly sketch out the poses I'm envisioning, take the ones that I like the best to refine and then rearrange them however, they fit best when they're done. I think of it as being a little bit easier than arranging comic panels, because I don't worry much about the background or fitting the drawings in boxes. Whenever I struggle with something feeling overwhelmingly complex, I try to make it significantly easier in whatever way calms me down. Sometimes this means drawing less of a character, or drawing them in a more simplified way. In a sense, doing the montage is my version of simplifying things for myself because I get to not worry about how the drawings will all fit together until they are done. I hope this helps! ♥️

I have a question, how do you plan out those multi-illustration montages? Do you follow any particular guidelines in terms of composition, etc.? I’d like to make more of those too, but the few attempts I made always ended up with me managing to draw only one illustration and it’s kind of unnerving. How can I go from one drawing onto the next without feeling overwhelmed? Thank you, nice work as always! Have a great December too :D
