they didnt want not to do it because it was brutal but because the way he did it in past he didnt care about if the fire, etc spread or did damage to envirement, etc. it was ends justify results so he would over do it at times.

This is a fight for your life where you'll get brutally tortured and R'd if you lose. Anyone with a brain would use every single option to win available regardless of how brutal it was.
