...but I always thought the visual would have made it better. Back then, my comic was still appearing in newspaper, so that was impossible. But now, we get to finally see... the rest of the story.

I mean technically it was that gorgons were so hideous their terrifying visage would turn you to stone. actual ancient greek depictions of medusa and her sisters make them grotesque, it was only in the renaissance that she became kind of pretty but with snake hair (presumably because medusa's story is honestly kind of a tragic one)
