Firstly, Naofumi was keeping his shield as the book whenever he was around other people so his reputation as the "shield devil" wouldn't effect his interactions with them. Also, it helped keep the kingdom's eyes off his trail. That's why that one plant-village leader guy didn't recognize him as the shield hero at first, but rather the "savior of the heavenly fowl." In a nutshell, Naofumi's shields have these mechanics going for them -- Equip Skill: These are skills which are locked unless you have the shield equipped. For example, the rope shield's "airstrike shield" is an equip skill. However, it is possible to "master" a shield. If Naofumi equips a shield for a certain period of time it will become mastered and unlock the equip skill for all shields no matter which one he has equipped. That's why he was able to use airstrike shield without swapping to the rope shield. Equip Ability: These are the same as the above, but are passive abilities. For example, the book shield Naofumi was using to disguise himself has the equip ability "magic power-up (small)." These effects stack. So the more shields Naofumi masters, the greater the accumulated effect with become. Equip Bonus: Same as above, but are stat increases. For example, the light metal shield (the diamond shield Naofumi swapped to in his fight with the spear hero) has the equip bonus of "defense +1." Special Effects: Skills which are shield-specific. You have to be using that specific shield to use its effects. An example could be the dog bite from the two-headed black dog shield. Mastering a shield will not allow you to use these effects on other shields. Defense Rating: Represents the defense power of a specific shield. The power itself isn't listed, but it is noted when Naofumi advances to a stronger shield. The light metal shield has a high defense rating, but its equip bonus is only a defense stat boost of 1, for example. Light metal Shield was his original shield in the early episodes, then he switched to the Chimera Viper Shield (which he obtained from defeating the nue, and you see him use against the plant monster) for its high defense rating, which is what he is still using as his main shield in terms of overall defense. When he went to sleep in the plant-monster village, he swapped to the mandragora shield so he could work on mastering it while he slept. It has the equip ability "plant analysis." Then in the morning, after he has mastered it, he swapped to the bioplant shield which has the equip ability "plant reform" and used that in conjunction with the mandragora's now-mastered "plant analysis" to modify the plant exactly how he wanted it.

Youve seen leaf shield, rope shield, pickaxe shield, two headed black dog shield, light metal shield (the diamond shaped one when he was against spear guy), a couple others i dont remember, chimera viper shield (one he used vs the plant monster), voice gengar bat form shield, book shield, bio plant shield, mandragora shield (one he took to bed)

2021-02-07 18:28:57 +0000 UTCYeah, Naofumi is essentially Tank/Support hybrid, and when I say Support, I mean it quite literally, as it encompasses all Support sub-types, such as Healing, Debuff/Buff, Utility etc Also, when the vines exploded, it was likely an Anti-Root passive, since the Shield Hero is a Tank/Support hybrid, and that's pretty basic fare for Supports to be able to Dispel debuffs on friendlies etc, so Slows, Roots and other debuffs like that should be ez in this case Since learning how sex etc works is something you'd not inherently know, but is taught by parents or w/e, as Raphtalia is like 10 or w/e, she would have never been taught these things before her parents died, so it's obvious she'd have a child's attitude, as far as how things work, unless she's taught otherwise
